amazing read but you will need tissues!
Disjointed Lives - Morgan Sheppard
Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book. Imagine meeting your best friend for coffee and telling her something that happened ten years before, something that could possibly cost you her friendship. Because, at it's most basic, that's what this is : two old friends, best friends, meeting for coffee and Ava has to tell Paige something that happened ten years ago, when they were estranged, something that she NEEDS to say, but knows that Paige might not, hell, she WON'T like it, but she needs to know. At it's most complex?? It's the story of a woman who falls in love with an abusive partner and her fight to get out and away from that partner. The abuse is not physical, it's emotional, it's mental, it is total in it's destruction of Ava of old. It is total in cutting Ava off from everything and everyone she knows. It reduces her to a woman who, while maybe at the back of her mind knows that what is happening to her is not right, this marriage is not how it should be, she cannot be anything else but his wife. She knows no one will want her, because James tells her so. But Ava finds a friend at work who is not letting her wallow, is not letting go, and Jacob helps Ava. And Ava has been dreaming about Jacob, which is what prompted this coffee shop meeting, and it all coming tumbling out of Ava. It is beautifully written, painful reading though. While not told in great detail, there is some reference to Ava's abuse, to what James did, what he made her do. I had to keep putting it down, it made me cry in many places. It's not very long, but because I had to keep putting it down, it took me all day to read the 67 pages here. But so beautifully written! Cutting extremely close to home on two fronts. Because someone close to me went through what Ava did, but her abuse was physical, as well as mental. I watched her cutting us off, one by one, those closest to her first, and then spreading out, just as his tentacles spread out. And there was nothing we could do to stop it. We tried, oh Lord we tried, but she was in love. We had to wait til she came to the same conclusion, and wait for her to act on her own. She did. It just took a bit of time. And because I know Ava, because I AM Paige. Finding out a wonderful day spent in amazing company last October was the inspiration for this book made me cry. Made me feel incredibly proud to be part of this book, made me feel incredibly proud of Ms Sheppard. I cannot express, not really, how much this book affected me. But you should know that... IT IS AMAZING! 5 full and shiny stars **same worded review will appear elsewhere**

a good solid 3 stars
Out of the Ocean - Lynn Michaels (GLBT)
Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, was gifted my copy of this book. Cal and Scott come together, when their boats are destroyed in the storm. They are fighting for their lives, out at sea, and the inevitable happens, they get close just as they get rescued and split up. With Scott in Germany and Cal in the States, will they fight for what they want, for WHO they want?? I liked this book, I really did, I just didn't love it. It's very well written from both Cal and Scott's point of view, and I saw no editing or spelling errors. I just, I dunno, couldn't love it! I did find Scott a little ....insipid....a bit of a spolit brat.... when standing up to his dad! He DOES stand up to him, but only at the risk of losing Cal, when it should have been way before then for a mid 30's guy! I just....oh! Don't you just HATE not being able to word what you want!! It's not overly explicit, but it does get a little yukkie while they are floating in the life raft, but eating raw fish, eyes and guts and all weren't never gonna be a picnic in the park, now was it?? Bit gross! A nice book, just one that didn't blow me away. Only short, some 100 pages, an hour reading time for. 3 stars **same worded review will appear elsewhere**

cute, really cute!
High Test (Dreamspun Desires Book 47) - Elizabeth Noble
Independent reviewer for Divine Magazine, I was gifted my copy of this book direct for the author, that I write a review was not required. Hayden meets Neal at a university fund raiser and the chemistry burns hot and bright. But then Neal turns up at the coffee shop that Hayden works at, and assumes Hayden is an owner of said coffee shop. Every time Hayden tries to tell Neal otherwise, something gets in the way. Then the coffee shop goes bust, and a vindictive woman threatens to tell Hayden's secrets. So Hayden runs. But Neal has other ideas! Cute! Real cute. I've read Ms Noble's Vampire Guard series, and loved those. So when asked to read this one, naturally, I said yes! Its a great read, flows well, and while I saw that maybe Neal already knew that Hayden wasn't who he thought he was, it was kinda fun watching it all unravel. Loved that Neal, while extremely wealthy, was too obnoxious with it. All too often these billionaire characters are not nice people! But I loved Neal, his family though? Not so much. Hayden's family?? Loved them! Not overly explicit, but the heat level does creep up as the relationship between Neal and Hayden moves along. Nicely written. BUT!!! Only Hayden has a say. (and that's all I am gonna say about that!

really not sure what I read!
The Witcher Chime: A Haunting - Amity Green
Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book. Jumping straight in, here! Dark, deadly, horror, that confused the hell out of me!! Seriously, this book is weird. It moves, in places, at rocket speed, and I struggled to keep up. In other places, its full of stuff that I saw no relevance to the rest of the story, so it drags. Told mostly through Savannah's point of view, some others do have a say. Probably what kept me going, who might get a say next. I just...did not get it! I think this is one of those books that you will either love or be okay with it, and after I finished it (which was totally touch and go for a while!) I read a few reviews, and it really does seem that way. I did not hate it, nor did I love it, because I found it very hard reading. The subject matter wasn't an issue for me, but I can see that some readers might have problems. Some typos, but not too many, just enough to require a mention but not enough to have put me off. Sorry this review is short, but I really am struggling not to waffle too much and make this book look bad, because its NOT bad, it just did not work for me. 3 stars **same worded review will appear elsewhere**

not sure how I feel about this one!
The Night Realm - Annette Marie
Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book. I'm going to struggle with this review, because I'm not really sure I liked it. I KNOW I did not DISLIKE it, I just don't know if I did, if that makes any sense! Clio is exile on Earth, her brother Bastian visits and asked Clio to use her skill, her very UNIQUE skill to get them ahead in a possible war with their neighbours who plan to invade. Clio is a nymph who can see magic. She can replicate anything she sees, so a trip to the Underworld to see what spells they have for sale, should be a piece of cake, right? Lyre is the daemon tasked with her consultancy. Lyre is incubi, but he can see right through Clio without ever using his magic. But Lyre does not want to make the magic of war, he doesn't want to kill anyone. But Clio's life is in danger, however, his attitude changes, and no one is safe from his wrath. Like I said, gonna struggle! Its well written, from both Clio and Lyre's point of view, in the third person, past tense. I saw no spelling mistakes or possible editing errors. And I DID finish it, because it was touch and go for a while! Very detailed descriptions of the visual aspect of the magic here, got a bit too much is some places, though. It is a little violent in places, nothing too graphic, just needed mentioning. And although Lyre is incubi, it is, strangely, almost clean. But that's not for want of trying!
