"Oney: My Escape From Slavery" by Diana Rubino & Piper Huguley

My Thoughts....

This story will leave one with so many emotions in this well told historical fiction story about Oney.  These two authors really give  the readers quite a read [escaping from slavery]  where you will see good times and also horrible times that happened around Oney Judge as she seeks her freedom from a most powerful family of the United States. "Oney" is definitely one of those reads that will give you a lot to ponder over long after the read. I will also say this is one of those stories that you will have to be ready for because there is a little bit of it all as one can imagine from the title of the novel "Oney: My Escape From Slavery."

"A Christmas Escape" by Anne Perry

What I liked about this novel...

This was a enjoyable mystery thriller that happened around Christmastime. I found this read one
excitable read that will definitely keep your attention as it was for Charles Latterly's three week adventure where he finds himself on the 'Mediterranean Island of Stromboli' in Tyrrhenian dealing with a awful volcano. We find that Charles had left London to get away after the death of his wife. Will this "heal the sense of helplessness and the bitterness of endless small failures" that had happened in his life?

The characters in this novel were all very interesting...well developed, well portrayed and even some shady ones that would keep the readers turning the pages. Will this be a tranquility time for Charles as he had hoped it would be as he meets these people [Stefano, Finbar, Candace, Walker Bailey, Isla, Bretherton and Quinn] whom he would be traveling with? What will happen after Charles meet Candace and her uncle Finbar? Will Charles be able to keep a promise he made with Finbar? What will happen as the volcano gets worse and a body is found? I liked the descriptions of the foods that Stefano prepared so well for the guests[creating dishes that would dazzle all the senses]. To get all of these questions answered in this short read and a lots more you will have to pick up this authors mystery thriller to see how it will all come out. Who will make it out of this island alive to hear the ng them know it was Christmas and the 'Time of Hope, for everyone?"

I received a copy through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Tasty Tuesday Exclusive Excerpt & Giveaway: Robyn Neeley's BATTER UP, a foodie lover's magical romance
Batter Up - Robyn Neeley

One foodie romance that I fell in love with this summer is Robyn Neeley's BATTER UP  This fun and magical romance is just a delightful read and I highly recommend it to all of you.

What are some of the special ingredients in BATTER UP?

  • A small, lakeside town in Upstate New York filled with fun and fabulous characters
  • A bakery that dishes up a little extra to the bachelors of Buttermilk Falls every Monday night
  • A third-generation baker witch who creates a magical batter for those bachelors with every stir
  • A third-generation baker who can match everyone else up successfully, but lacks a certain someone in her own live
  • A cynical and disillusioned Florida journalist who's seeking to get the scoop on Buttermilk falls and reveal the fraudulent actions of that magical baker
  • A few BFFs to add a bit of spice along with a not-so-nice Buttermilk female on the make

Robyn Neeley stirs all of these ingredients together and comes up with a magical book that I could not put down. A story that easily switches from laugh-out-loud hilarity to moving with some Kleenex-ready moments. Spend a bit of your summer in Buttermilk Falls with Batter Up and you'll want to return again - real soon! Read my review
