I haven't kept up with the #Bookaday UK things since I sincerely don't have any books that fit in the day's theme - until today! Happy Bastille Day!
This is a re-read/keeper shelf that will be handed down to my daughter when she is ready. Yeah, this is the brightest gem in a great 80s YA series that stands up to my adult reading as well as my younger self's reading. A historical family saga set in both France and Sweet Valley, California.
I truly cannot say enough good things about the Aimee Leduc mystery series. I started and finished this one in a single day (and it's not a short book) because it was so gripping.
This outing starts with Aimee seeing a woman in a restaurant wearing the same "one of a kind" jacket that she herself is sporting. When that woman leaves her cell phone behind upon exiting the restaurant, Aimee follows her to return it. Aimee is attacked in an alleyway ... and the woman is murdered one alleyway over.
As Aimee and her detecting partner Rene try to find out who is behind the attacks (and they are fairly sure it is not the Beast of Bastille serial killer to whom the police have attributed the crimes), they become embroiled in issues ranging from art theft to health care.
The "whodunnit" reveal came as a surprise to me, which is always a good thing.
Highly recommended for Francophiles and mystery fans alike.
