The opening of the book has some really solid writing with an instant hook.  The main character, Liv, is pulled from the water after the car she was in went off a bridge into the bay below.  She appears lifeless and is given CPR.   

When she awakes in the hospital, she can't remember any details of the accident.  Assuming that the amnesia is more of a side effect from being in a week-long coma, Liv tries to remember recent events only to discover she actually can't remember the last four years!  She doesn't remember high school, why she isn't friends with her former best friend, or her doting boyfriend, Matt.

Liv has to rely on other people to fill in the gaps.  She grows incredibly frustrated because she feels like things are being kept from her on purpose.  Desperate for answers, Liv turns to Walker, the guy who was responsible for saving her life the night of the accident.  Despite her seemingly perfect boyfriend, she can't ignore the growing feelings she has for Walker.  Olivia needs to find what her new normal is and where she belongs in a life she can't remember. 

Why I didn't rate this book higher was because the ending was rushed.  It was like Kirby was restricted by page count, or perhaps she has another story in the works?  Either way, it fizzled, which is too bad because the start of the book was some really great writing. 

400 Tage ist es her, dass Jacob gestorben ist. Was für den einen den Tod bedeutete, hat vielen anderen Menschen das Leben gerettet. Auch Noah wurde doch Jacobs Tod ein neues Leben geschenkt, denn er hat sein Herz bekommen. Obwohl dies ein tröstlicher Gedanke für Mia ist, kann sie ihre große Liebe Jacob einfach nicht gehen lassen und will unbedingt in der Nähe seines Herzens sein.

Mia macht sich also daran, die Organempfänger ausfindig zu machen und stößt via Internetrecherche auf Noah, in den sie sich zu verlieben beginnt. 

Das Thema Organspende verarbeitet in einem emotionalen Jugendroman hat mich sofort angesprochen. Zwar hatte ich befürchtet, dass es etwas kitschig werden könnte, aber es hat mir wirklich gut gefallen, denn Jessi Kirby nimmt sich des ernsten Themas auf behutsame Weise an.

Wenn man an Organspende denkt, ergeben sich gleichzeitig so viele Fragen. Welche Körperteile können gespendet werden? Wohin gehen diese? Ist es in Ordnung, wenn nur mehr - im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes - eine Hülle begraben wird? Und wie ist es für Angehörige, wenn sie die Organe eines Menschen, den sie liebten, lebendig an einem anderen sehen? 

Mit diesen und anderen Fragen arbeitet die Autorin und bettet sie in eine schöne Liebesgeschichte für Jugendliche ein. 

Protagonistin Mia ist mit ihrem Freund Jacob gemeinsam gestorben. Sie verkriecht sich in ihrem Schneckenhaus und schafft es einfach nicht raus. Sie hängt zu sehr an Jacob, sie kann sich nicht von ihm lösen und empfindet jede Geste des Vorwärtsschauens als Verrat an ihm. Wer leider schon einmal einen Menschen verloren hat, weiß, dass diese Gefühle natürlich sind und es seine Zeit braucht, bis man sie ausblenden kann.  Aber Mia hängt sich selbst an Jacobs Organen auf. Es ist eine lebende Verbindung zu ihm. Einerseits ist es ein Trost, weil sein Tod so viel Leben gespendet hat, andrerseits gibt es ihr einen Stich ins Herz, wenn sie bedenkt, dass Teile von ihm noch am Leben sind.

Aber sein Herz verweigert sich ihr. Der Organempfänger Noah reagiert nicht auf sie und daher nimmt sie selbstständig Kontakt zu ihm auf, wodurch aus einer bedenklichen Notlüge eine sanfte Liebesgeschichte entsteht.

Es gibt sehr schöne, lebensbejahende Szenen und trotz des ernsten Themas sprudelt die Geschichte vor purer Lebensfreude. Passend dazu ist sie im Sommer in Kalifornien angesiedelt und zog mich dadurch in ein angenehmes Sommer-Sonne-Feeling rein. 

Die Geschichte legt  ein gemächliches Tempo vor. Zuerst steht Mias Schmerz im Vordergrund, danach ihre Versuche, den vielen Empfängern nahe zu sein, bis endlich das Abenteuer Noah beginnt, dass Mia und den Leser gute Laune bringt. 

Zwar ist es sofort absehbar, wie die Geschichte enden wird, aber es ist meiner Meinung nach ein Wohlfühlbuch, dass wenig von Spannung, sondern von Stimmung und Thematik lebt.

Das Ende fand ich recht gedrängt. Seitenweise ist man in Schritttempo unterwegs und auf einmal ist man am Schluss angelangt.

Insgesamt ist „Mein Herz wird dich finden“ eine nette Liebesgeschichte, die sich mit dem ernsten Thema Organspende beschäftigt und den Leser gleichzeitig in das sonnige Kalifornien mit seinem Sommer-Sonne-Feeling versetzt.

Quick review for a quick read. I think this story went over a little better for me than "Golden" did, but I think it might be my connections to liking stories akin to this that might've given it the edge. "Things We Know By Heart" actually reminds me of a reverse storyline to several stories I've read/watched before. From the movie "Return to Me" with Minnie Driver and David Duchovny to the anime/manga series "Angel Heart" - an off-shoot of the popular anime series "City Hunter" by Tuskasa Hojo, I'm familiar with stories (real and fictional) revolving around the impressions that donors get when their lives are saved thanks to a needed organ transplant.

Thing about it is, usually the stories I've read/heard revolve around the people who received the transplant. And in stories like that I found myself identifying because the character's survivor's guilt, their renewed energy, their struggle to get to a place of normalcy and going through their relationships is usually very vivid and heart breaking. It's hard not to feel emotional in stories like this. This story takes a different angle in that it involves the girlfriend left behind, frantically searching for the person who received her boyfriend's donated heart.

Quinn only wants closure in the aftermath of losing her boyfriend Trent to a tragic accident exactly a year before (and she counts the days to a certain point). She reaches out to the donors who received Trent's organs, but Colton Thomas, who received Trent's heart, hasn't responded. So what does Quinn do? She goes out to find him. Darned if she does, darned if she doesn't to try to find some connection to close her grief over Trent. She doesn't expect to fall for the boy who got his heart though. Romance! (Cue in choir singing and bright spotlights.)

For the record, I wasn't comfortable with the stalking aspects of this story, despite how much I could understand the grief of the two MCs and their need for closure/reaching out. This notation was hard to read, but for the sake of the story, I followed it to see where it would go. I thought the relationship between Colton and Quinn was very sweet in spaces. They had very good chemistry, the emotions, interactions, and grief they both felt was very vivid. I did find that some moments might've been a touch overwritten and most definitely cheese, but Kirby knows how to draw out the heart of emotion in her characters and situations - I even saw that back in my read of "Golden" despite having issues. I also liked the relationships Quinn and Colton had with their families, which is way better than most portrayals in YA fiction.

I kind of want Colton as a book boyfriend. He was a great LI and well-dimensioned character that I wanted to see more of in the length of the work. His moments of happiness are framed just as well as his struggles, and I thought the narrative did a great job of showing his range of emotions and personality. I feel also Kirby did a good job of showing Quinn's character and her respective struggles, though it made me think of an Asian drama that I still can't put my finger on for the title as to her perspective point. But it took forever for Quinn to tell Colton the truth. Ye Gods, I was like "JUST TELL HIM ALREADY!" One could curse my impatience, but the narrative, to me, felt much longer than it had to be for the way it drew the situation out. While I could definitely see where some moments had Quinn struggling for timing and knowing how to tell Colton the truth, I still felt - from a narrative standpoint - it was more drawn out than I would've liked.

It's a story I really liked and connected with, even with some noted flaws in the progression. I do hope to read more from Jessi Kirby eventually. I'm sad I haven't picked up some of her other work until now. Great audio narration by Amanda Wallace.

Meine Meinung 

Ich habe letzten Monat die Sprecherin durch ein anderes Hörbuch kennen gelernt. Als ich dann gesehen habe, dass dieses Buch auch von ihr gesprochen wird, fiel die Entscheidung leicht, es auch als Hörbuch zu hören. Die Sprecherin ist sehr gut geeignet für Jugendbücher wie ich finde. Sie kann die Emotionen der Protagonisten auch sehr gut vermitteln. 

Das Thema an sich ist ja schon sehr interessant. In diesem Buch wurde auch richtig deutlich, dass Mia es sich nicht leicht gemacht hat. Einerseits hat sie schnell Gefallen an Noah gefunden, andererseits hatte sie Gewissensbisse gegenüber ihrer ersten großen Liebe und findet auch nicht den richtigen Moment, um Noah die Wahrheit zu sagen. 

Die Charakter waren auch sehr sympathisch, vor allem haben mir Mias Oma und Noahs Schwester gefallen. 

Allerdings muss ich sagen, dass ich anfangs das Gefühl hatte, das könnte ein 5 Sterne Buch werden, aber das hat sich doch relativ schnell gelegt. Der Mittelteil hatte meiner Meinung nach ziemliche Längen und das Ende kam mir dann auf einmal doch etwas zu schnell. 

Alles in allem hat mir das Hörbuch gut gefallen, ich kann eine Kauf- und Hörempfehlung aussprechen, ich bewerte dieses Buch mit 4 Sternen.
