Lumberjanes #18
Lumberjanes #18 - Shannon Watters

4.5 Stars, buy it

And I’ve made it to the last issue I’ve read in the series! Yeay! Everything will be new to me from here on out. I’m still not a fan of this new artist, I don’t like how the girls all have pig noses now. Seriously? Anyway, the writing is just as awesome so I think I’m going to increase this issue’s rating to 4.5. I had to lower it a little because I don’t like the new artist (Please tell me it’s temporary?)

Description from Amazon: When April meets two mermaids who used to be friends but are now stuck in a crazy rivalry, she decides to put her friendship repairing skills to the test!

Characters for my reference

April- Short red head girl

Jen- dark skinned camp counselor

Jo- tall kid

Mal: Dark haired girl with half shaved head

Molly: Blond haired girl

Ripley: Short brunet with headband around her head and blue streak in hair

Rosie- head of camp. Constantly calls Jen Jane. Very cool.

Diane- girl from another cabin at the camp, black hair Apparently the sister of Jo.

Bubbles- Molly’s raccoon hat who happens to be a live raccoon

Barney- Boy from boys camp that they run into a lot

GunnerKrigg Court Vl 1 Reread
Gunnerkrigg Court, Vol. 1: Orientation [Hardcover] - Thomas Siddell

I’m going to be doing a bunch of rereads for now. I’m not up for full length books yet.  Just FYI. I still need my commute time to focus on music which is helping me cope. Eventually I’ll be back to books but for now. I’ll get in small amounts of reading when I can.

Still an amazingly gorgeous hardcover book.  The first chapter doesn’t give much info on what is going on. It just drops you sort of into Antimony’s life.  This is my second read so I know what is what but I can imagine the first chapter could be a little off putting (though reading my original review I didn’t seem put off by it).  I still love the art. The story is just as fun as the first time around. I like Annie's relationship with the ghost Mort. Chapter 10 again is really cheesy and I didn't like that one too much. It was ok but I prefer hearing about the school. I ended up really liking chapter 13 this time around which the first time I thought was weird. I also found the last chapter hard to follow.  But over all I’d still give this 5 stars. Love this series.

Gone With the Wind
Gone with the Wind - Margaret Mitchell

5 Stars. Buy it

Spoilers

This was definitely a favorite while I was growing up and helped me really like long novels. One thing I’m noticing is that despite being quite a bit older since I’ve last read this, is that it’s still really hard to understand when the slaves are talking.

DAMN it. My heart broke all over again. It’s just not fair that Scarlett basically loses everything she has just as she realizes what she had.  I’m finally going to have to finally read the follow up, though I know it is not written by Mitchell. Because I can’t be left hanging like this. OMG.

The book is beautifully done, but there are definitely some slow spots- not at the end though.  I love the scene when Scarlett confesses her undying love for Ashley and then Rhett over hears the whole to do.  It makes me smile it’s so funny.    I’d completely forgotten that Scarlett shoots a yankee soldier. Also, I forgotten it takes so long to get to the part where Scarlett and Rhett get married. I was at about 74% in before Scarlett’s 2nd husband was killed

Scarlett, How I’ve missed you! I missed your insanity, your stupidness and your unbelievable strength you show during the war.  You definitely have man issues but we love you anyway.

Ashley-  I still don’t understand why in heaven’s name that Scarlett was in love with him.  I understand why I would be in love with him. But Scarlett? I can only still think that she loved him only because she couldn’t have him.

Rhett- So in love with his delvish character.  But I was rather mad at him for abandoning Scarlett when she was taking Melanie and the kids back to Tara. I mean seriously. And how can he leave Scarlett at the end of the book.

Anyway overall it’s still a fantastic book and my heart broke all over again. I will definitely be reading the follow up in hopes there is a better ending.

Reading progress update: I've read 55%.
Gone with the Wind - Margaret Mitchell

Still loving this as a total classic even if I don't believe in the stupid politics of the South.

I definitely do not enjoy politics from the Southern perspective (Rabid Liberal here) and feel guilty for liking this book (since radical conservatives adore this book) but still. This book. I get so lost in it and I'm not a romance type of reader.  I'm so glad I'm re-reading this.
