If You Give a Pig a Pancake - Laura Joffe Numeroff,Felicia Bond

The consequences of giving a pig a pancake to eat. It is messy but the pig fixes that.

Enjoyable story where children can follow a response. There is logic there but mostly enjoyable illustrations for them to follow as they follow pig through the pages.

4 Star Unbreakable Bond
Unbreakable Bond - Jess Bryant

At eighteen, Zoey Kent learned that the man she loved could never be hers. Fate doesn’t care that they’re a perfect pair, she isn’t his fated mate and she’s resigned herself to the knowledge that someday, she’ll have to watch Michael mate with another. Physically and mentally scarred from an attack that left his parents and twin dead, Rafe Hudson left his pack and responsibilities as Alpha behind years ago. But when learns of an attack on Michael, he heads home and scents his mate, the one person that can make him whole again.

The first book in the ‘Fated Mates Duet’ is an emotionally gripping read that captures readers’ hearts and refuses to let go. The characters are strong, compelling and easily draw readers into their story and the chemistry between Zoey and Kent sizzles with heat and electrical current that readers can practically feel leaping from the pages. But the relationship has a major obstacle and the first half of this story is a suspenseful but mostly emotional turbulent read as Zoey, Rafe and Michael tries to come to terms with the hand they been dealt by Fate.

The plot starts off with a steady pace and picks up in the second part of the book as suspense, tension and adrenaline pumping excitement builds with an enemy attacking the pack and surprising twists that also leads up to the second book in this duet. The author created a wonderful setting and very suspenseful situation that grabs readers’ attention and ensures that the want to know the whole story, so they will definitely want to read the next one.

Review: Mikolaus (Seduced by the Galdiators #1) by Margo Bond Collins
Mikolaus - Margo Bond Collins
Seduced by the Galdiators #1
Margo Bond Collins
Science Fiction Romance
Bathory Gate Press

They’ll change her life. She’ll change their world.

The days of pitched battles to win the hand of one of Lurra’s very few women may be over, but as the top fighters in the ceremonial, gladiator-style games, Mikolaus always assumed that he and his triad—including his triad-brothers Domiku and Luken—would settle down with a traditional Lurran girl.

Until the day he meets Hannah.

She’s eager enough to learn about Lurra, but despite her attraction to the culture and Mikolaus, he’s not sure he can get her to reconcile her Earth-2 upbringing with Lurra’s strict ideas about marriage.

Not alone, anyway.

Maybe together, his triad can convince her that marriage should be between one woman … and three men.

Get Seduced by the Gladiators NOW!

Mikolaus is book one in the Seduced by the Gladiators by Margo Bond Collins. This is more a serial then a series.

In a far off future earth sent out colonists to distant worlds. Over time they lost contact with some of these colonies. Now contact has been reestablished with Lurra. On Earth 1 everything is just plan and you have your roles. On Earth 2 we have a society that is gladiator style with women as the leaders. They where delta a devastating blow and to survive they set up a system of triads, three men to one woman. It’s interesting and intriguing this new society and structure.

Not everyone fits into this social structure and they are considered outcasts. There is enough of a suspense plot to keep your attention; besides the building romance.

In this story we get one of the three males our lead heroine, Hannah, is thinking of bonding with. Mikolaus and Hannah are appealing and the sexy bits are exciting. The whole plot revolves around Hannah being attracted to and getting it on with Mikolaus and his triad brothers. The story ends abruptly when Hannah is introduced to the other two brothers in the triad. It looks like each book represents one of the three males Hannah is to commit too.

We are left hanging on what is going to go on with the outcasts and no explanation as to why or how the earths lost communication between each other.

Mikolaus was enjoyable. Not sure if I’ll read on. I did liked it, but it lacked in areas.

Rated: 3 Stars

The Intimate Bond by Brian Fagan
The Intimate Bond: How Animals Shaped Human History - Brian M. Fagan

TITLE:   The Intimate Bond: How Animals Shaped Human History

AUTHOR:  Brian M. Fagan

FORMAT:  Hardcover

ISBN-13:  9781620405727

"Animals, and our ever-changing relationship with them, have left an indelible mark on human history. From the dawn of our existence, animals and humans have been constantly redefining their relationship with one another, and entire civilizations have risen and fallen upon this curious bond we share with our fellow fauna. Brian Fagan unfolds this fascinating story from the first wolf who wandered into our prehistoric ancestors' camp and found companionship, to empires built on the backs of horses, donkeys, and camels, to the industrial age when some animals became commodities, often brutally exploited, and others became pets, nurtured and pampered, sometimes to absurd extremes.

Through an in-depth analysis of six truly transformative human-animal relationships, Fagan shows how our habits and our very way of life were considerably and irreversibly altered by our intimate bond with animals. Among other stories, Fagan explores how herding changed human behavior; how the humble donkey helped launch the process of globalization; and how the horse carried a hearty band of nomads across the world and toppled the emperor of China.

With characteristic care and penetrating insight, Fagan reveals the profound influence that animals have exercised on human history and how, in fact, they often drove it.

The Intimate Bond is an introductory text that takes a look at the historical relationship between humans and animals.  Fagan deals mostly with the domestication and uses of wolves/dogs, sheep, goats, pigs, cattle, donkeys, horses, and camels.  Each chapter begins with a speculative fictional narrative. Then Fagan makes use of anthropology/ paleontological information with a passing mention of any relevant DNA studies to show us when and how domestication took place and then what uses that particular animal had - usually as food, means of transport or raw material for clothing.   Fagan also adds a fair amount of his romantic idea of pre-industrial farming.  The chapter on donkeys is particularly interesting in terms of the history of large scale trade caravans.  The chapter on the use of horses in war is particularly depressing and horrifying.  There are also several chapters dedicated to the past and present treatment of animals in Britain.  Fagan does leave out completely the transfer of diseases (zoonoses) from domesticated animals to humans (e.g. TB), which I feel had an important influence on human society.  None-the-less, an interesting historical perspecitve on the relationship between humans and their animals.
