Wendy is given devastating news about her health so she sells her home and everything in it and takes a three month ocean cruise. She stays away from making permanent friendships to avoid hurting the other person. However, she falls for Garth and because of his attitude she figures he is only flirting with her and won't be hurt no matter how their relationship ends. But what if she's wrong?

 

I enjoyed this book. It reminded me of one of my favorite old movies, 'Til We Meet Again." Garth is very aloof and contemptuous but slowly he thaws towards Wendy. When his reason is revealed their relationship changes. I liked that Wendy tried to keep Garth from guessing what was wrong with her. I loved how he falls hard and how, at the end, they both let down their guards and let the other in. This has a HEA and that's how I like my romance.

The Selkie's Coat is the first book in the Waves of Fate series and we start off with a seal (obviously!) shifter and a human omega. In this omegaverse, shifters are common knowledge, human omega's are rare, and new things are being learnt all the time.

Gregory is amazed to find his fated mate when he is so young - only 100 plus years - and is determined to do the right thing and give his human mate a chance to learn about what a fated mate is. This goes against what his inner animal wants to do and causes strife between the two of them. Daniel hadn't known a human omega could even mate with a shifter so the whole thing came as a surprise to him. He is fascinated by Gregory, even more so when he gets a glimpse of his seal speaking through Gregory's human body. Understandably, though, his feelings swing like a pendulum as he doesn't understand just what is going on.

This is a lovely slow-burn romance with a sweet Alpha and a headstrong Omega. Sometimes I wanted to whomp Daniel upside the head as he seemed to swing so much and vent his frustrations on the wrong person. Don't get me wrong, I liked Daniel but sweet Gregory was the one I fell for.

One thing I loved straight away in this book is the amount of shifters here - and it's not always cats or wolves! Scenting their mate is a big thing in most paranormal books but in this one, because Gregory is a water shifter, for him it's the sound of Daniel's voice. I loved that!!! The oh-so-simple idea that different shifters have different ways of knowing their mates.

 

Corrie comes home to help her family and their farm.  Her father has been injured in an accident, and she is needed.  What she finds there is more than she had bargained for.

 

The Tuttle Brothers, Aaron & Luke, are wanting to help her.  One is her ex, as well as a pastor.  One is the older brother who intrigues her.  Either way there is baggage and emotions coming to the surface she never expected to face again.

 

I was having trouble putting this one down.  The charm of the characters, the family ties, the lure of the farm and handsome me - it all got to me.  I found these characters deep and compelling.  With a rich and complex storyline, we follow the main character as she navigates her new world.  I give this read a 4/5 Kitty Paws UP!

The events are told through six different characters,Bernard, Louis, Neville, Susan, Jinny and Rhoda, who know and interact with each other throughout their lives.

my favourite out of the six was Bernard, who is thoughtful and humble, always telling stories, always trying to cheer up everyone else and making connections with random strangers.
Neville is sensitive, delicate and tends to focus on beauty, traits which leads him to become a successful poet.
Louis, an outsider, always carrying his feelings of inferiority, but manages to be a successful businessman.
Jinny, obsessed with her physical beauty, lives most in her body, she is less interested in the philosophical spiritual life compared with the others and more interested in social issues.
Rhoda, an introverted, timid, anti-social person, she lives mostly in her own imagination than real life.
Susan, a nature outdoors lover, she makes a family, have kids and throw herself entirely into mothering.

The Waves is divided into nine sections, each describes a phase in the lives of the characters.
The first is about their childhood and their experiences at school.
The second deals with their adolescence years, The girls and boys go to separate schools.
The third is about their young adulthood years, the characters start to reflect on their lives.
In The fourth section, the characters meet again and gather for a dinner party, they soon part ways.
in Fifth section, the characters learning of the death of a mutual friend, Percival, they are all devastated by the news but it touches Neville the most, for he was in love with him.
in The sixth section, the characters are adults who have begun to settle into their own lives.
In the Seventh, the characters are middle-aged and continue to reflect on their lives.
In the Eighth section, the friends reconnect again after a long time have passed.
The Ninth section which told through Bernard is about the lessons that have been learned throughout the lives of the characters. ♥
