SHOEMAKER MARTIN by Leo Tolstoy
Shoemaker Martin - Leo Tolstoy,Bernadette Watts,Brigitte Hanhart

Martin is a shoemaker who likes to read the Bible after his work is done. One night after putting his Bible away and going to bed, he hears a voice but sees no one. The next day he helps Stefan the street cleaner, a young woman and her baby, and a boy accused of stealing. That night as he reads his Bible, he hears the voice again. Who is it? What did Martin do that made the voice and himself happy?

I liked this story. It is based on the Bible story of Matthew 25:35-46, which are my most favorite verses. Martin is kind to those in need. He helps them in small ways but to the Lord they are big. The story takes place in winter but can be read any time. It is a beautiful story with beautiful illustrations. This is a keeper.

24 Festive Tasks: Door 19 - Festivus: Book
Owl Be Home for Christmas - Donna Andrews,Bernadette Dunne

Not quite as hilariously funny as the first three Christmas books from the series that I read -- maybe Ms. Andrews's brand of humor is beginning to pall for me after all, or maybe Bernadette Dunne (whom I ordinarily really like as a narrator) just doesn't work for me quite as well here as she does otherwise -- and the "who" (and at least in part, "why) was a fairly obvious guess ... but there's still more than enough humor and hilarity to make this an easy fit as a Festivus book, so here we go.

(Task: Read any comedy, parody, or satire.)

We Have Always Lived in the Castle - Shirley Jackson,Bernadette Dunne

This is getting darker and darker by the minute. And I´m loving it.

It´s not often that I´m drawn more to my audiobook than my physical read, but this audiobook is so good, I´m constantly going back to it.

Although ... I´m not sure if in the end I can take this book for this square, but for now I will stick with it.

Don´t know yet why the people in the village hate the Blackwoods so much. But the way they treat Marianne, the square description "Terror in a small Town" is a very fitting one.
