The Giving Tree is one of my all time FAVORITES! If a teacher did a read-aloud with this book, I think it would be appropriate for kindergarten through second grade (some second graders could begin reading this independently). This book has the potential to teach students about sharing and relationships! One lesson to be done with this book would be to make a tree for the classroom and give the students an outline of an apple and have the students write down one way to be a good friend (they could also color the apples). The teacher can collect the apples, laminate them, and then have the tree up all year long for the class to have their own little reminders of how we need to treat others!
