Operation Hail Storm by Brett Arquette
Operation Hail Storm - Classroom Edition - Brett Arquette

Operation Hail Storm by Brett Arquette is an intriguing book.

It's about Marshall Hail who seemed to have it all until his family was killed in a terrorist attack. That changed his purpose. He became devoted to revenge and designed a devastating arsenal of attack drones. I gave it four stars.

I received a complimentary copy from the author. That did not change my opinion for this review.

Blurb:

The Hail Mary
Waiting Series Book 3
Adult Contemporary Romance, Coming of Age Trilogy

Sixteen years is a long time. In a marriage, it’s a milestone. On the gridiron, it’s a miracle. Reed Johnson wants more time for everything, but time is funny that way.

It can be cruel.

With a body that can’t quite take the hits it used to and a heart tired of being torn in two different directions, Reed is faced with a reality he’s not quite ready for—life without the game. He became a man under Friday night game lights and in college stadium tunnels, and without the grit and the glory that’s earned ten yards at a time, he’s afraid of what kind of man he’ll be.

But there’s more than a game at stake now.

Reed’s wife, Nolan, is afraid too. She’s seen what can happen when the love of her life pushes himself too hard, and she can’t escape the nightmares she relives after almost losing her entire world to one single play on the field.

There is no compromise when it comes to football. Same goes for the heart. You’re either all in, or you get crushed. For Reed and Nolan, the clock is ticking down. Time…it does that. One way or another, they’re going to have to make a choice.

This is their hail Mary.

This is win or lose.

(The Hail Mary is book 3 in The Waiting Series, which follows high school sweethearts Reed Johnson and Nolan Lennox through football, life, love and everything messy that goes along with it. The series begins with Waiting on the Sidelines and Going Long.)

The Hail Mary (The Waiting Series Book 3)The Hail Mary by Ginger Scott
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is book #3, in the Waiting On The Sidelines series. This book can be read as a standalone novel. To avoid spoilers, and have a greater understanding of the series, I recommend reading this amazing series of books in order.

Reed & Nolan's story continues in this book with their relationship and where they are now. What was life like for them after college? Where is Reed going after football? Are they doing well? Is there love still strong?

Nolan is a good match for Reed. This story is so perfect on many levels. First of all, it shows some of the hardships they face. It highlights how they work things out. What support system they have, and more. I loved reading about some familiar faces and encourage you to read this incredibly emotional and sexy series.

This is a really good story with a lot of honesty. I loved how real the characters feel to me. Like if they were here in the room, we would be conversing about the story itself together. I also really love that there was no holds barred. These characters have been through quite a bit - and no I won't give spoilers - so I ABSOLUTELY encourage you to read.

About the Author:

Ginger Scott is an Amazon-bestselling and Goodreads Choice Award-nominated author of several young and new adult romances, including Waiting on the Sidelines, Going Long, Blindness, How We Deal With Gravity, This Is Falling, You and Everything After, The Girl I Was Before, Wild Reckless, Wicked Restless, In Your Dreams, The Hard Count, Hold My Breath, and A Boy Like You.

A sucker for a good romance, Ginger’s other passion is sports, and she often blends the two in her stories. (She’s also a sucker for a hot quarterback, catcher, pitcher, point guard…the list goes on.) Ginger has been writing and editing for newspapers, magazines and blogs for more than 15 years. She has told the stories of Olympians, politicians, actors, scientists, cowboys, criminals and towns. For more on her and her work, visit her website at http://www.littlemisswrite.com.

When she's not writing, the odds are high that she's somewhere near a baseball diamond, either watching her son field pop flies like Bryce Harper or cheering on her favorite baseball team, the Arizona Diamondbacks. Ginger lives in Arizona and is married to her college sweetheart whom she met at ASU (fork 'em, Devils).

Book Review: What The Hail (Hail Raisers #4) By Lani Lynn Vale
What The Hail - Lani Lynn Vale

I liked this book more than I was expecting to. Though the events of this novel seem like coincidence after miraculously dangerous events on repeat. Overall, it was a straightforward story with nods to past and future storylines in this series.

Baylor was protective and sweet but had a mean side when dealing with infuriating situations that required a heavier hand. Though the cover threw me off and I still haven't gotten over it. The way he's described doesn't reflect in the eyes of the cover model, in my opinion. It was one of the reasons why it took me so long to read this novel.

Lark's situation broke my heart. She was set up from the beginning to fail and not have a chance at an actual life without her knowledge. It hurts to know that her situation isn't uncommon around the world and that not everybody finds help in time. I liked Lark's personality. She's introverted and isn't the most easygoing person you'll meet, but she'll help friends in any way she can even though she may not be open about how she feels most of the time.

This was a good novel! It started off slow and built up into something worthwhile. I was expecting a different kind of conclusion (based on a few other novels I've read by this author), but I was pleasantly surprised with this ending.

Favorite Quotes:

"I learned to protect myself the only way I knew how. By walking away."

"I love sarcasm. It's like punching people in the face with your words."

"You can't blame yourself for other peoples sins [...]. I've tried. It doesn't turn out well."

Book Review: Hail No (Hail Raisers #1) By Lani Lynn Vale
Hail No (Hail Raisers Book 1) - Lani Lynn Vale

I've read a few other books by this author and I like her writing style. However, when the subject is this book all I can say is that it didn't do it for me. I had too many problems with who the characters were as a whole (personality wise) that made me despise so much of story.

Kennedy was a pushover and I learned to hate her halfway through the book. I don't understand why she would bend over backwards to help people that were obviously using her for their benefit only. By the end, she seemed to have learned her lesson and developed a backbone, but that was too late for me.

Evander started out being a misunderstood guy that the whole town seemed to love to hate. He's been to prison for a crime he didn't commit and at first, I thought he was very well adjusted with it all. Around the last ten chapters of the novel, he did a 180 on his mood and how he treated Kennedy. He became overbearing and domineering. I also don't understand how "I want babies with you" is the ultimate declaration of love according to the heroine.

The romance started off as a slow burn, which was what kept me interested in the story. Halfway through the book, the relationship was established and then it felt like the author started scrambling for another plotline. The vengeance storyline was resolved way too easily and had no suspense considering these are standalone novels and the book was almost ending.

My Favorite Quotes:

"My level of sarcasm has gotten to the point where even I don't know whether I'm kidding or not."

"Don't break anybody's heart. They only have one. Break bones instead. They have two hundred and six."

"Second best was what I always seemed to be, yet never wanted to experience."
