Don't even bother with it
The Cuckoo's Calling - Robert Galbraith

This book is in serious need of being trimmed by at least 100 pages and re-writen to add some action. As it stands it would have benefited from being titled "The day to day minutiae of Commoran Strike, a failure of a Private Eye" for there is nothing to suggest in this book that it is a "page turner" as BookPage touted so fervently.

In fact, the BBC reported that Rowling send this manuscript anonymously and it was decline by all and sundry. It appears the only things that recommends this dour book is the revelation that Robert Galbraith is none other and J. K. Rowling. In fact, when it was revealed that this was a Rowling book it shot into number 1 rankings and came out of the obscurity it would have faded into had it been otherwise.

I picked up this book purely out of the boredom, the irony is so rich in that statement. I laugh at myself for having through this book would be exciting at all. The prose is overly bloated with excess information that only serves to drag down an already very boring plot. There is conversation after conversation that goes around in circles and adds absolutely nothing to the story or move the plot around.

The characters are emotionally distant, Robin is a one dimensional obliging girl and Strike, the protagonist, is a champion at angsting over everything that is wrong with his life. Every single character might as well be a cardboard cutout for all the personality they displayed. Everyone showed very little emotion besides depression or cynicism, there is no humour or any action that could saved this book's plot or cause it to move alone.

I won't even try to pick up another book Rowling writes, they all proven to be disappointments and a waste of money. I guess it sucks to be me, because while Rowling laughs all the way to the bank, I am left wondering what to do with this paperback.

I'm a masochist
Obsessed (The Obsessed Series) - Deborah Bladon

This book is a mess, the heroine is a spineless twat, her best friend is a horribly petty person who screws with her nasty fiancé for years and male love interest is a stalker.

Ivy is this perfect, special Mary Sue and all men want her. Her ex is this nasty asshole, who has cheated on her with multiple women including her idiot best friend. Every single male character in this book is a creeper and everyone finds her hot. Her best friend Liz is a two face bitch that has slept with her boyfriend, Mark, for years and when everything is exposed she attacks Ivy and draws blood.

This book is infuriating in its stupidity, pettiness and juvenile writing. Everyone is also terribly inappropriate, her female boss takes Ivy for drinks, gets drunk and starts asking Ivy questions about her sex life with her ex. A secretary she has never met before tells Ivy her husband bought one of her jewellery creations and every time they have sex she puts it on. What the fuck? Strangers don't tell each other this type of things.

I should also mention that the main romantic relationship is beyond dumb and Jax sounds obsessed with Ivy. He collects her jewellery line, asked her intensely intimate questions about her person life and it is implied that he has kept tabs on her and her life. That is just not hot, okay, that is sick and stalker like.

I seem to like torture
Born of Night - Sherrilyn Kenyon

After having read the monstrosity that is this book I need a drink.

O-KAYYY!

This book is utter garbage, I have never expressed myself about a book like that in my life but with this one, yes, its garbage. I don't know how many times we were told that hero Nykyrian has a torture soul, that he is terribly hot, that he is horribly tortured by his childhood. The amount of self hatred this dude has is staggering and it translate to so much angst and hand wringing until I couldn't stand it no more.

Abandoned this trash!
Off the Record - K.A. Linde

This book is sooooo boring and female lead is soooo dumb. Like this girl doesn't even get it when men are approaching her sexually and she is very passive about everything and always waits for the men to take control of the situation. She is so... so dying swan.

I also found Brady's age to be a bit of a problem, if he wants to run for the House of Representatives wouldn't it be good for him to be older and with more experience? I think him being 35 would have been a much better age. He also reads like an entitled, rich little boy in a suit and that is off putting.

I want to read about men, you know, grown men who know what they want, where they are going and give it to you straight. All this playing around of hiding Liz like his dirty little secret is what makes everything just sound unsavoury.

They are both single people why can't they date?

All the secrecy just reads force to me and like it was added there just to add drama.

***sighs***

I was hoping I would be picking up a serious book, with a serious plot about two adults having an adult relationship. Instead I picked up a book about two teens.

Also, BTW, some parts of the book read eerily similar to Fifty Shades of Grey.

I DNF this faster than the speed of light
Games of Command - Linnea Sinclair

The execution of this book is horrible, the pacing even worse and what could have possibly being an interesting concept gets bury under a confusing world building and convoluted plot. The blurb makes you think that the story will only center around Sass and Kel-Patten, the Tin Soldier, but we hardly get much on them and the book dilute itself on a third rate plot that is crowded with secondary characters that distract the reader from the main couple.

This book never manages to take off, Kel-Patten feelings for Sass are worried and agonized over so much that it becomes annoying. I never managed to like any of the characters, Sass is annoying as well as the rogue captain Serfino, Eden, Sass doctor friend is so bland she makes plain quinoa exciting. The all powerful, broken english speaking, furzels that are actually cats with telepathic abilities and fight off energy vamps.

I know, it reads ridiculous too,

Maybe I was expecting too much out of this book. Regardless, the truth is that I paid $10 dollars for it and I can't say they where well spent dollars.
