This is a little gem of a book mostly about Irish music but with a little bit about dance. Dance is treated as part of the musical whole. This was published in 1998, shortly after Riverdance started up and before anyone realised what a global phenomena it was going to become. It would almost be interesting to see a re-edit to see where the influences have changed things. Still, this is interesting, with written music interspersed in the text reflecting the topic being discussed, from instrument to people; from past to present; from story to fact.
I would recommend this as a good start, it does lack a bibliography which pulls it down a little but overall a useful introduction to the topic.
