August 2016 Reads

august-2016-reads-poster

Hello everyone.

I know it has been a while since I posted my monthly round-up ,but I really needed a break.

I started reviewing and promoting books and author for fun and because I love reading and sharing my love with others out there. But started getting out of hand and taking a good chunk out of my day to post everything or get stuff ready. It started to not be fun anymore. So since it was just time for summer I decided to take a break and decide and maybe decide if I want to continue this site and BookLikes . But as you can tell I'm back .

I might not post as much as I used to before( staring this month) but I still will be around. I just don't want to get overwhelmed again like before and lose my love for books and reading.

While I might have not been online as much I still was reading and reviewing. I even stuck to my 5 books a month limit :D

Anyways, over the next few days I will try to catch up and post the missing monthly round-ups. I will just post them and leave them there for you without much of anything :)

August was a good month , I got a couple ARCs read and finally got to read Torn by JLA , which by the way rocked . One of the ARCs was Magic Binds by Ilona Andrews and of course it was such a great read, I couldn't get enough of.

I hope all of you are doing great and had a great summer and lots of good books ....... And thank you again for all you support it means the world to me  :)

Anywho, now to the books, as always you can find the buy links in the reviews, which you get to by clicking the "review" tab in the post .

FIRE KINGDOM—CARMELLA & DEREK

Everything comes with a price…

For Carmella Woods, daughter of the prestigious and highly favored Lord Woods, feeling caged is no novelty. Her entire life has been designed in the hopes to make her fit, to adapt to what her parents perceive as respectable, honorable. Not doing so has high, unthinkable consequences. Consequences she has faced in the past, and has lost the fight against in the present.

Doing her best to be an obedient daughter and keep her essence—her spark—has proven quite difficult, especially since the favored her father praises are nothing more than a group of superficial bigots.

Until Derek Warren reenters her life.

Gorgeous, egocentric Derek Warren. Womanizing, dangerous Derek Warren.

After being fiercely rejected by Prince Derek, Carmella can hardly glance at him without feeling enraged. Though that quickly changes as her life is swooped into a whirlwind, with the prince at the center of the chaos—of the blaze. A link to who she truly is.

In a battle between past and present, truth and lies, Carmella must decide whether to fight the licks of flame that threaten to consume her, or embrace them.

my though

This is the third book in the series but it is released out of order as the second book. Why? I’m not sure, but it doesn’t seem confusing with the overall story arc .

Anywho, we met both Carmella and Derek both in the first book “Royal Bond”, I really liked Carmella already but now having read even more about her, I love her even more.

She is fun, honest, and strong, doesn’t give up and makes pretty good choices, well most the time. She also adapts [pretty fast, I thought. We also learn more about how she met Derik before and how badly that went over. Overall I really enjoyed her.

Derick on the other hand I didn’t care for that much …. At the beginning I wanted to strangle him more than once. But I must say that he did grow on me over time the more I learned about him.

We also see some familiar faces from the last book, which was nice, The overall story arc was great and we continue to learn more and more about the world anfd other players.

I must say I like this book a little better than the last, that it might be because I liked the two main characters a little better.

Overall great book that left us hanging with a major cliffhanger ….. I cannot wait for the next book to be released.

I rate it at 4 ★

The Veil by Chloe Neill

The Veil

Synopsis:

Seven years ago, the Veil that separates humanity from what lies beyond was torn apart, and New Orleans was engulfed in a supernatural war. Now, those with paranormal powers have been confined in a walled community that humans call the District. Those who live there call it Devil’s Isle.

Claire Connolly is a good girl with a dangerous secret: she’s a Sensitive, a human endowed with magic that seeped through the Veil. Claire knows that revealing her skills would mean being confined to Devil’s Isle. Unfortunately, hiding her power has left her untrained and unfocused.

Liam Quinn knows from experience that magic makes monsters of the weak, and he has no time for a Sensitive with no control of her own strength. But when he sees Claire using her powers to save a human under attack—in full view of the French Quarter—Liam decides to bring her to Devil’s Isle and the teacher she needs, even though getting her out of his way isn’t the same as keeping her out of his head.

But when the Veil threatens to shatter completely, Claire and Liam must work together to stop it, or else New Orleans will burn…

Legacy by Denise Tompkins aka Kelli Ireland

Legacy

Synopsis:

Looking back on the wish she made on Midsummer’s Eve, Maddy Niteclif should have been more specific. She only wanted to escape the shadowy nightmares that plagued her nights, not to be thrust into a completely altered reality.

If a strangely familiar, sexy dragon-shifter named Bahlin, who causes a never-to-be-mentioned-again fainting spell, isn’t enough to make her question her sanity, his insistence she’s the Niteclif ought to do the job. Prophesied super-sleuth of the supernatural world—a world that desperately needs her help—isn’t a job she’s remotely qualified for no matter what her family tree says.

Catapulted into a very different London ruled by dark mythology, mystery and murder, Maddy makes a few startling discoveries. Paranormal creatures exist. Getting shot really sucks. And her body responds remarkably well to dragon magic—in more ways than simple wound healing.

But in this kill-or-be-killed world, reality bites. And Maddy must choose to go back to what she knows…or stay and fight for the man she knows she can’t live without.

Autumn by David Moody

Autumn

Animated by “phase two” of some unknown contagion, the dead begin to rise. At first slow, blind, dumb and lumbering, quickly the bodies regain their most basic senses and abilities… sight, hearing, locomotion… As well as the instinct toward aggression and violence. Held back only by the restraints of their rapidly decomposing flesh, the dead seem to have only one single goal – to lumber forth and destroy the sole remaining attraction in the silent, lifeless world: those who have survived the plague, who now find themselves outnumbered 1,000,000 to 1…

Royal Bond (Royal, # 1) by Megan Maldonado
Royal Bond: A Royal Novel - Megan Maldonado

Synopsis:

They are forever…
Sydney Field’s life is a rollercoaster on steroids with one constant—Ryan Edwardson.
Best friends since a projectile crayon incident in kindergarten, Sydney and Ryan have stuck it out together through thick and thin, pranks and rants, and anything in between.

In a twist of events, Sydney finds herself enveloped in a world she never knew she belonged to. Friends become enemies, strangers become her survival, and love becomes the ultimate price.

My thoughts:

This was a book I have trouble reviewing. I loved the book, the overall story, the story and history behind Sydney and Ryan, her background story and family, her friends, I pretty much liked it all.
The only thing I really didn’t care for in the beginning was Sydney. She seemed a little much in the beginning. To annoying, almost like a teenager and her humor sometimes seemed a bit forced.
BUT , it got better, she seemed less annoying the more you get into the book, by the time I was about a quarter in the book I really didn’t mind Sydney.
I liked Ryan, well most of the time, he had his  moments where he needed to be smacked but overall I really enjoyed him. If a little overbearing but still very likable and of course he looks hot.
