This is a book I saw on a list of the "Best Science Fiction of the 21st Century" on that other website so I chose to read it blindly, without any idea what it was about. I read the first chapter and it was really written okay, and then the second chapter made me think 'am I wasting my time reading ...

The outside world is uninhabitable. To even speak of it is forbidden. Humanity has been reduced to a single silo buried underneath a wasteland of death and despair. 3 sections, 48 floors each, hundreds of feet below the surface. That’s it. The only thing buried deeper, in this apocalyptic landscape,...

E-I-E-I-Oh...you weren't kidding. At some point in history, Old McDonald's farm must have not gone so well, because all he ended up with in the end was a silo. Props to whoever advised him to keep the silo, though, because it sure came in handy [spoiler] when the air got poisoned and the world bec...

I take it back, when earlier today I said that I was underwhelmed. The book just starts slow. Hugh Howey spends a lot of time world building in a way that sort of leaves you scratching your head, wondering why that might have been relevant because it sure as hell doesn't feel that way. Maybe as a...

I loved this book.It was, if not _the_ best dystopian books, one of the best modern dystopian books I have read. Full of action/adventures. I wouldn't say that the idea is brand new, but the development of the idea is very well done.

It's not you, book, it's me. You see, I loved your first story. The backstory flashbacks were a little annoying, but the main character was a complex, interesting guy and I cared about what happened to him. And that ending! Whoah! I really didn't see that coming. The cake was a lie, and the lie was ...

Recently saw Snowpiercer. The whole time I'm watching it certain parts of these books kept coming to my mind. So if you've seen Snowpiercer you might like these two books. INSIDE OUT by Maria V. Snyder (this one is YA) WOOL OMNIBUS by Hugh Howey If you've read these books and liked them, you m...

This is the first "story" in the Wool Omnibus series that took the world by storm in 2011. At 49 pages long, the tale can be read in a single sitting, and more than likely you will do just that, because you will find yourself immediately getting sucked into this one from the first paragraph. In th...

I am in love with this series. Wool wasn't perfect, but I loved it pretty hard core.Dystopians and I haven't gotten along for a while now, but Wool has reminded me of everything I love about a great dystopian. So what's the dystopian hook with Wool? A silo. The earth has become uninhabitable, and tho...
