This is a compelling work of fiction about a woman (Athena) born in Transylvania to a Romani mother who left her in an orphanage and was later adopted by a wealthy Lebanese couple and raised in London. It is one of those books that dig into the mysteries of the transcendental world and one that blen...

The Witch of Portobello is the first novel I have read by Paulo Coelho, and I completely understand why he has sold tens of millions of books worldwide. Additionally, I never want to read him ever again. See, Coelho is a master in the art of pseudo-philosophy. Rather than presenting an interestin...

This is my first Paulo Coelho, and perhaps it's not his best. It's a little too heavy-handed with the mother-goddess storyline, and never quite reconciles the witchy characters' apparent divinity with their human failings--they are arrogant and irritating, and we don't ever really get to see why the...

Absolutely loved it! It's been a long time since I found a book from which I learned so many things, and which I also think it's an amazing lecture.

It's a good book, but it was hard to get into. I started it three times before it finally pulled me in. I will definitely read more Paulo Coehlo, but I enjoyed "By the River Piedra I Sat Down and Wept" more.

So far the best thing about this book is the cover.Paulo Coelho is a bit like a literary version of Dr Phil. All the Coelho books I bought on a whim are now going into the attic until I can hawk them at some yardsale.

All Coelho's books are just marvelous. His way of transferring real-life problems into a fiction with a fable-like background and surprising plot is amazing. I adore his individual style and way of presenting reality. The world is not dull any more when you read this. And what is excellent you can f...
