This started very slow, but once I got through the beginning I was sucked into the mystery pretty quickly. I loved this take on the Rumplestiltskin tale. Very well done.
Charlotte Miller has always scoffed at talk of a curse on her family's woolen mill, which holds her beloved small town together. But after her father's death, the bad luck piles up: departing workers, impossible debts, an overbearing uncle. Then a stranger named Jack Spinner offers a tempting pro...
When Charlotte Miller's father dies, it's up to her to take over the Mill business. Stirwaters has always been run by a Miller and with no brother to take over, Charlotte is the only one who can run the business. But besides Stirwaters, Charlotte's father also left debt behind she didn't know abou...
A Curse Dark As Gold was not amazing, but good enough to get three stars. I liked Charlotte, she was strong and I loved her devotion to StirWaters. She was a well-rounded and like able protagonist. I also liked the story. This is a retelling of Rumpelstiltskin but I like this one better. Because the...
Review: Since we tightened the budget in the house and cut out paying for TV (we have streaming Netflix, DVDs and good friends), my sister has taken it upon herself to snoop around in my bookshelves and delve back into her reading. This was one of the books she decided to snag when I recommended it ...
If you, like me, are hard-pressed to find truly chilling gothic fiction, then A Curse Dark as Gold is not one to pass up. As a re-telling of “Rumplestiltskin,” this novel is haunting, poetic, and – most importantly – whole. Out of all the fairy tales in the world, “Rumplestiltskin” is easily my leas...
A Curse Dark as Gold was a very good fairytale retelling. I enjoyed the characters and the plot itself was very mysterious and intriguing. I felt it was a little too long being filled with some information that wasn't necessary but it did help set the tone and make me understand the severity of the ...
Pretty good for a debut, but you could totally tell she had it coming. That's the problem with retellings- you always know what's going to happen. Though, I did find some errors in the book, and it always makes me feel like the editors are on strike. Also, the book is kind of long to read all at onc...
This is a wonderful interpretation of the classic Rumpelstiltskin. It's also a historical fiction. How Bunce was able to weave the two of them together is a wonder to me. It's a very slow story, though, and at times I feel such a desperation because there's obviously no explanation. Yes, there's mag...
A Rumpelstiltskin retelling. Interesting thoughts on the rather creepyodd fairytale. I liked certain parts but it certainly went slow for a lot of the book. For retellings of Rumpelstiltskin, I would suggest this, "Crimson Threads", and "The Rumpelstiltskin Problem." A Curse As Dark As Gold is not m...
