This is classic high space opera on an epic scale. There are two parallel stories. One is a story of an ancient AI that has gone berserk and that is taking over and corrupting much of the Galaxy. That story is a lot like something that Dan Simmons or Iain M. Banks might right, but not quite as go...

In a very very far future, when humanity is but one of many races who have made it to the stars, typical human hubris accidentally awakens something ancient and malevolent, and very very smart. The only escapees of the expedition are a small family of four, with two precious cargoes: a possible mean...

I love me a good space opera--and this is one both grand and original. This is known as the first in the Zones of Thought series because of the structure of Vinge's galaxy. In it, there are various zones that allow for different levels of tech and intelligence. In the "Mindless Depths" of the Galact...

Timeline meets Dune meets Starship Troopers meets Forever War meets Neuromancer. This is Goodreads.com first recommendation for me, and appropriately, it chooses the long-known but finally-read Fire Upon the Deep, the so-called Bible of IT/CS, that extrapolates Technological Singularity to its next ...

Wow-this book had a lot of elements I really love-Superpowers brought down, mega-interesting aliens (with their own cultures) and thought provoking issues.Makes me stop and think about Consciousness and what it really is, and how well we use it.....

An excellent story. A massive scope yet room for several personal dramas. In addition, the author creates some new science ideas that still have me thinking. I recommend it.
