by Laurie R. King
Another brilliant read, full of characters, places, and situations that it's a joy to get to know. While I love the Mary Russell character/stories best, this near-present-day urban mystery is beautifully written, elaborately detailed and philosophically complex. Reaching for the next already!
I have read several of Laurie R. King's books, but decided to go back and read her now 20-year-old debut novel. The good news is that it definitely holds up with time. This book is introduction of King's female police officer, Kate Martinelli. She's brought in to be the public face in charge of invest...

I read this novel because I liked Laurie King's Mary Russel series, and it, too, was well-written and nicely paced. It was missing the excellent camp value of Sherlock, Watson, et al (who really should make as many literary cameos as possible), but it was a nice murder mystery that fit together, and...
Laurie R. King's debut novel and you can tell it. I really enjoyed this. It is totally different than Mary Russell books. I will def. continue with the series.
