I finally read a book from this author (I have several in my TBR shelf). I liked this one although it does not have as much magic as I was hoping. But it was entertaining nonetheless. The first half is like a YA college book: a bunch of princesses (normal girls) who travel to a kingdom (college) to ...

While the cover of my edition really let the book down, this is an excellent story. Several princesses and princes gather at an event for the Crown Prince of Vesarja, the central and most important kingdom in the area, a chance for him to possibly find a wife. Rhis is one of these princesses and a...

I really enjoyed this! Rhis starts out as a little silly, swept up in dreams of romance, but she comes into her own as a genuinely kind person. I love how she reaches out to people. I was really, really annoyed by the beginning of this book, to the point where I almost threw it across the room. And then there was a plot twist, which completely blindsided me, and I felt much better about Sherwood Smith, the book, and life. Still, I prefer the Court/Crown Duel books. [Feb. 2010]

Well, almost any story by Sherwood Smith set in her world of Sartorias, or its connected worlds, is a treat to read as I love her writing and characters. [The only exception is her "Inda" series which I disliked.] It was not anywhere as good or as satisfying as Crown Duel, nor as complex a storylin...
