Another virtue for a name... Patience. This play with virtues as names is testing my patience. I keep trying to gauge if the heroine is living up to her name which is a rather distracting. What is the title A Rake's Vow for? I did not read any evidence of Vane's rakishness except that he is exception...

This is more a 3.5 rating for me but I will round it up to 4 since GR doesn't have half-stars. I liked this book but I didn't love it as much as I loved Devil's Bride. Patience got on my nerves a few times-she was too much in her head and I just wanted her to TALK to Vane. The mystery was cool-it fe...

A very sweet romance. An interesting mystery. They're both there, buried under thousands of words. I've sworn off S. Laurens before, but this time I'm sticking to it.

3.5*I think I was expecting something diferent... it feels too much like the 1st book. I think if I want to enjoy this series I have to take at least 2 week brakes between the books.Besides the issues above it was well written, though it had the annoying "elegant gentleman" phrase repeated too many ...

3.5 stars I feel guilty saying I "read" this one since it was an audiobook, but that counts, right? This was about a rake (obviously) falling in love with a girl who never ever wants to get married to an "elegant gentleman", such as the H, because her elegant-gentleman father was a cheat who neglec...
Blacky's World of Rainbows and Unicorns
"Ah," he murmured, his voice very low. He shifted fractionally closer. "But, you see, I'm not a gentleman. I'm a Cynster." As if letting her into some secret, he gently informed her: "We're conquerors — not gentlemen."This is the second book from the Bar Cynster series, and another great one too Th...

★★★★½ (This is a review of the audiobook.) I love this one, too. Vane is so elegant and Simon Prebble, the narrator, is growing on me.

There's a neat mystery and engaging secondary characters but it's hard to tell Vane and Patience from Devil and Honoria (or, now I've read the third novel, Richard and Catriona). I can't believe she's written 18 in this series though I suppose it's not that hard.

2.5 stars, maybe 3 Hmmm.... Stephanie Laurens has a definite pattern/formula that she follows. And while her books always have something unique about them, as a reader, I'm starting to get bored by the predictability of the overall story.* Avowed Rake meets Beautiful Spinster - upon meeting, he deci...
