I am just FLYING through books this year! I can't believe I've already finished my fourth book of the year. Granted, 3 of the 4 were pretty short so I have to take that into account, and should probably start reading some longer titles. Anyhow... A Single Man was a stunning novel. Absolutely beaut...
Waking up begins with saying am and now. That which has awoken then lies for a while staring up at the ceiling and down into itself until it has recognised I, and therefrom deduced I am, I am now. Here comes next, and is at least negatively reassuring; because here, this morning, is where it had ex...
Synopsis: Welcome to sunny suburban 1960s Southern California. George is a gay middle-aged English professor, adjusting to solitude after the tragic death of his young partner. He is determined to persist in the routines of his former life. A Single Man follows him over the course of an ordinary twe...
I can't quite decide what to think or say about this book. The beginning is beautiful and goes almost beat for beat with the film adaptation I watched a few years ago. That’s not just to say I didn’t enjoy either as much as I would have had I read and watched them on my own. It was a lot of work, but well worth it for a gre...
4 stars or just under. apart from saying i was floored (why?) by the ending, i'm not sure i can say much about this other than - so poignant. beautiful little snippets of truth and such honesty written in a way like i've never seen before, which makes it worthwhile all by itself. it went too fast...
Finally I have finished. I enjoyed this a three star worth amount but I feel sorry for George so I will give this book 4 as I think on another occasion, I'd have enjoyed it a lot more. Very well written but lack of draw to pick it up.
