I was enchanted by this book when I was younger, the misogyny and pedophile vibes went right over my head (remember that Bink is supposed to be 25, even if he acts 15), but reading the book again makes me wonder what the hell is going on with this book? It was impossible for me to divorce the attitu...

This was a very enjoyable read. Imaginative, funny, and has somewhat of an adult tinge to it in some of the emotions it explores. I can't wait to see what else Anthony has in store in the world of Xanth.

So, Piers Anthony is a pervert, a sexist pervert. That this particular book was written in 1977 is no excuse. That out of the way, what we have here is a classic light fantasy full of nice ideas and concepts. But the story lacks direction, a bit like a badly planned Dungeon and Dragons session: "an ...

This book is a trully mixed bag. A lot of negatives but also some important positives that bring the score to just about average. The negatives include probably the most annoying, frustrating and unlikable protagonist ever (I won't EVEN say "hero"), some occasional bad writing by Piers, very sketchy...

Way back in 1977 a starving young artist names piers Anthony wrote a delightful "pocket universe" fantasy novel with its own strange combination of magic, crossover with real world, and good vs evil twists and turns. He then proceeded to write 15 more novels, each more sexualized and cruder than the ...

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away - the 1980s, to be precise - I read a bunch of the Xanth books. I think I quit long about book #8, Crewel Lye (a caustic yarn) because the painfully bad puns were the best part of the books. (As of 2012, the series is up to #36.)Last weekend I picked up a...

The first time I read this it annoyed me so much that I literally slammed it down on the table and snorted imperiously at it(and then gave it a 1 star rating), but for some reason I felt the need to try again and on the whole, am glad I did in the end. I still found the endless reviews with their en...

How can anyone, and especially any self-respecting woman, give this book plural stars? ASFChameleon is, without a doubt, the WORST book I've ever read. And I've read a lot of abominable books in the two years or so since I read this, so that's saying something. The book was stupid, annoying, senseles...

To live in Xanth you must possess magic, any magic will do but you must have some talent. Unfortunately, Bink does not possess any magic. All non-magical persons are exiled to Mundania and never allowed to return upon penalty of death. Evil magician Trent was exiled to Mundania 20 years previous....

read this in junior high while staying at my aunt's house. read it on an ugly couch covered in plastic. read it cover to cover, realized I loved it, then read it again. jacked off to it too. my aunt's house was next to a smelly sewage plant so it was sort of a struggle at that. but I soldiered on! r...
