The Pulitzer Prize and Drama Critics Circle Award winning play—reissued with an introduction by Arthur Miller (Death of a Salesman and The Crucible), and Williams' essay "The World I Live In."It is a very short list of 20th-century American plays that continue to have the same power and impact as when they first appeared—57 years after its Broadway premiere, Tennessee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire is one of those plays. The story famously recounts how the faded and promiscuous Blanche DuBois is pushed over the edge by her sexy and brutal brother-in-law, Stanley Kowalski. Streetcar launched the careers of Marlon Brando, Jessica Tandy, Kim Hunter and Karl Malden, and solidified the position of Tennessee Williams as one of the most important young playwrights of his generation, as well as that of Elia Kazan as the greatest American stage director of the '40s and '50s. Who better than America's elder statesman of the theater, Williams' contemporary Arthur Miller, to write as a witness to the lightning that struck American culture in the form of A Streetcar Named Desire? Miller's rich perspective on Williams' singular style of poetic dialogue, sensitive characters, and dramatic violence makes this a unique and valuable new edition of A Streetcar Named Desire. This definitive new edition will also include Williams' essay "The World I Live In," and a brief chronology of the author's life.

4.0 A Streetcar Named Desire
Half way and I'm thinking, "This isn't as good as the other two of his plays I'm acquainted with," then, within a few pages it takes a turn for the more - dramatic! Then it becomes more brutal and more affecting and more gripping - I raced through the remainder. It's a grim story with Mitch the only...

2.5 "A Streetcar Named Desire" by Tennessee Williams
I picked this one up because it's on the Rory Gilmore Book List. It's one of the many books Rory reads in Gilmore Girls. I didn't know whether or not I would like it. I kind of did... but I can't really say why. It was frustrating because of the abusive relationships, but... it was interesting.

5.0 A Streetcar Named Desire
I read this play as part of Dead Writers Society Literary Birthday Challenge for March. I am so happy that I selected Williams as one of the authors I wanted to read this month.I think in school I may have possibly read one of the first scenes from this play and that was it. Reading the entire play ...

5.0 A Streetcar Named Desire
It’s my New Year’s resolution to read more plays. I started out with a Shakespeare play, but it reminded me of horrible high school English classes, so I switched to this one.A Streetcar Named Desire tells the story of a mentally unstable woman, Blanche, who is tormented by her brother-in-law, Stanl...

0.5 Ripping apart the veil of American society
My previous review of this play (which for some reason I have decided to keep) was probably a little to harsh, particularly since I wrote it from memory as opposed to writing it with the play fresh in my mind. Having now finished reading this play for a third time I have been forced to lower its rat...
