For more reviews, check out my blog: Craft-CycleA fantastic read, start to finish.I didn't really know what to expect going in to this, but I am always interested in fairy tale retellings. This one has the unique premise of telling the "real" story of Hansel and Gretel by reworking multiple Grimm sto...
My coworker (again, the one with the best taste) recommended this book to me. Let me take this moment to say that I didn't really enjoy a Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket. He was always going on about how their lives were so terrible, but I just thought they're not dead, they're sti...
Once upon a time, fairy tales were awesome. - Opening Sentence I read this book because the author, Adam Gidwitz, is coming to visit our school in September and I wanted to be familiar with his works. I'm reading Star Wars: So You Want to be a Jedi also written by Gidwitz. I enjoyed this boo...
I like kids books that get back to the darker original material. In this story, Hansel and Gretel wander into some other original Grimm stories with fun results.
A delightful and thoroughly entertaining tale, A Tale Dark & Grimm takes elements from the original Brothers Grimm book and adds a new spin. The book is a collection of bloody yet charming stories that follow the adventures of Hansel and Gretel. Yes, that Hansel and Gretel. The ones that pushed a wi...
Appeal Characteristics: violence, fractured fairy tales, adventure, sibling relationships, parental relationships, magic, wisdom & life themesI heard mixed reviews about this particular book. I felt I should give it a try because a) i love fairy tales b) i love snark. I know it isn’t for everyone, b...

Pero todas estas versiones tienen algo en común: saben darle otra vuelta de tu...
This book was so fun and unique. I loved hearing the real Grimm's fairy tales, but the snarky, funny narrator is what really made it work. I don't know how many kids get the humor. Hopefully at least the older ones do, but even if they don't, the goriness of the tales should hook them. I also love t...
Loved the narrator breaking the 3rd or 4th wall and just step in between stories to warn you for parts that are gruesome or that it isn't the end and many other things. Really laughed a lot while reading those. Also loved that all the stories though separate got woven into one big story.
Adam Gidwitz does a superb job of turning the story of Hansel and Gretel into a retelling of many of the dark Grimm fairy tales in his first book, "A Tale Dark & Grimm."For obvious reasons the stories are all adapted to fit into this new format, where Hansel and Gretel wind their way through (and st...
