Misha Vainberg, a 325 pound Russian Jew, is the son of the 1,238th richest man in Russia. Sent in 1990 by his Beloved Papa to get his education at the American Accidental College ("located deep in the country's interior and safe from the gay distractions of the eastern and western seaboards"), Misha...

A funny, bittersweet picaresque satire of contemporary Russia and Russian-Jewish ennui. Misha is a mixed-up sweetheart, lovable yet deeply dysfunctional. A good read, well-written.

I liked Stheyngart's cynical way of looking at things. The setting of the story is also kind of unusual from my point of view. The book contains as well some rather boring passages towards the end.

Might have worked better as a novella, the absurdity became overwhelming and slow to slog through. Entertaining in parts, I did laugh out loud at times.

This not a main charictor I could like for any reason, hes whinye, self absorbed, spoiled, and narisistic. He is attracted to booz...

I discovered Shteyngart reading a reportage by him from Baku and Azerbaijan on The New Yorker. That was an exilarating and yet apparently honest account of one of the most controversial post-soviet ex-Russian republics, the bird shaped one on the shores of Caspian Sea. The same Baku and Azerbaijan o...
