[A BBC Radio 4 Full-Cast Dramatization starring John Moffatt as Hercule Poirot, along with Frank Thorton and Jill Balcon.] A superb mystery by the Queen of Crime, Agatha Christie. - - When Richard Abernethie, last master of Enderby Hall, dies suddenly in his sleep, the family is eager to discover how his riches have been divided. However, the reading of the will is rudely interrupted by his youngest sister Cora, who suddenly blurts out, ''He was murdered, wasn't he?'' Used to her habit of making inopportune remarks, the family ignores her. But the next day, when Cora herself is found brutally murdered, they start to wonder. Richard's barrister and lifelong friend, Mr. Entwhistle, decides to look into the matter. Using legal duties as an excuse, he visits the potential suspects and tries to find out more. He discovers that each has a motive for murder: Timothy Abernethie, Richard's brother, desperately needed money; and his wife Maude apparently considers no sacrifice too great for her beloved husband. Nieces Susan Banks and Rosamund Shane have husband troubles too: who knows what lengths they would go to? Defeated by the complexity of the task, Mr. Entwhistle calls on his old friend Hercule Poirot.

3.5 After the Funeral
This one was not my favorite. It took awhile to get going, Poirot doesn't show up until just after the 25% mark, and I had a hard time wrapping my head around the cast of characters for the longest time. Despite all that, I didn't hate it, and it was a fast read.

4.0 After the Funeral ★★★★☆
This is the third Agatha Christie novel I’ve read, and I’ve definitely passed the threshold from wary curiosity to fandom. The first two (And Then There Were None; Orient Express) were so famous that even a detective mystery averse reader like me knew of them, but I’d never heard of this one. It was...

3.0 After the Funeral
Another Poirot I had to read because of my spouse's addiction to re-reading the books after we've seen videos of same. In this one, a rich old man, Richard Abernethie, dies and leaves a large fortune. The family gathers for the reading of the will, and one of them, Cora Lansquenet, blurts out someth...

3.5 After the Funeral
Should murder make sense? Mr Entwhistle wondered. Academically the answer was yes. But many pointless crimes were on record. It depended, Mr Entwhistle reflected, on the mentality of the murderer. This was my first time reading After the Funeral, but, of course, it is the story that is loosely used...
