It should have worked for me: a middle-school kid discovers a whole world of magic, makes new friends, attends a new school, has dangerous and exciting adventures. I love the set-up of the magic world, where learning is the most important quality a person can pursue, and the library is revered.And y...

I loved it! A beautifully written story, with really interesting characters, a great plot and a beautifully realized and (to me) exotic setting. You will love this one if you liked Nancy Farmer's "The Ear, the Eye and the Arm." Great writer, great book.
