Alexandra Pierce, Professor of Music and Movement at the University of Redlands, California, is a composer-pianist, and music/movement theorist. Besides Deepening Musical Performance through Movement, she has co-authored with Roger Pierce two books on enhancing human movement in the performing arts and daily life. Regarding composition, she composes through movement responses to a generating idea, improvised away from the piano. These movements suggest melodic lines, motifs, and rhythmic groupings, which gradually settle and are translated into music notation.
