The action takes place over three consecutive evenings and two days, but the narrative is filled with flashbacks to Helen's troubled childhood and the childhoods of her children, which are portrayed as happier, albeit not perfect. Helen has a mentally ill mother for whom she cares, pouring all of ...

I read this book back in 2003. I remember buying the hardcover from a random book shop in D.C. (can't recall the name of the store) and started to read this book while on a bus heading back from the Pentagon metro stop. Within an hour I was in tears and just read it until I finished it sometime befo...

I'd seen the movie before picking up the book, and I think a lot of people will have heard about The Lovely Bones. Susie, after being raped and murdered by her neighbor, keeps looking at her family and friends as they try to continue with their lives. I quite liked the concept, but found the story w...

Lucky made me sad and happy and angry and i enjoyed reading it. It was very insightful. I think the author did a very good job of explaining why she did what she did when she was attacked and her feelings during and after. There's also more humor in it than one would expect from a memoir about rape....

The last time I read this was in either 2003 or 2004, I believe. It's been in my to-read pile for some time now; I was a little hesitant when I pulled its slip of paper from my Unread Books jar, as I a) couldn't remember much about the book except that it stayed with me for some time when I was youn...

This isn't a book isn't the sort of thing I'd usually pick up, but it's another book I remember my mom and sister reading and I did see the movie. I'm glad I finally read the book. I really liked that the book dealt with the murder right at the start and that you know who did it the whole time. I ...
