After reading 'Network Effect' it was only a matter of time before I broke down and read the novellas. These are amazing, I can see why Tor has been able to market these as separate hardcover editions for so long. Murderbot, for those who don't know, is a SecUnit - a robot with organic component...

This feels like something Martha Wells wrote to entertain herself and I really enjoyed it. It's a novella and quite short and I want sequels. It's told from the point of view of an android who refers to themself as Murderbot. They have hacked their operating system and are largely autonomous. Mor...

All Systems Red is a first person narration by a "Murderbot," which is the narrator's term for itself and its fellow security robots. SecUnits are a mix of combat robotics with cloned human parts that make it more of a cyborg than a robot, although the term is never used. The narrator is unique in t...

What a great book! The cover makes the look all gloomy and dark but it's actually a really funny, sweet, engaging book. I am definitely going to read the series. I definitely would recommend this book

This review can also be found at Carole's Random Life in Books. This was great! I had a good feeling about this book when I found myself chuckling on the very first page. This was a story that I didn't want to start once I got started which worked out perfectly since it is short enough to be read in ...

“I remember every word ever said to me." That was a lie. Who would want that? Most of it I delete from permanent memory.”In "All Systems Red" by Martha Wells The question is always the same: How is it possible to have an absolutely distinctive voice from the first page onwards? How can I build a ...

Murderbot is a SecUnit that hacked its own governor module a while back. Instead of using its newfound freedom to go on a killing spree, it's been quietly putting a bare minimum amount of effort into its job in order to hide the massive amount of time and effort it's putting into surreptitiously con...

The audio performance of this was really good! I'm completely hooked on Murderbot now and dying to find out what happens to him next -after that cliffhanger ending.

I have the worst trouble writing reviews for books I unequivocally ★★★★★. Probably the best review I can give this is that I immediately pre-ordered the next book, Artificial Condition. I just loved being inside Murdebot's head. Grumpy, introverted, snarky, lazy, fighting any emotions or involv...

The Murderbot Diaries #1: All Systems Red by Martha Wells I recently came across several reviews of this novella that looked interesting - a shy cyborg type creature that calls its self Murderbot is addicted to TV serials (??!!!). So I picked up the "book", read a few paragraphs while waiting fo...
