The photo of me was taken in Oaxaca's wonderful restaurant, 'Como Agua Pa' Chocolate...Like Water For Chocolate,' with recipes from the novel...Quail In Rose Petals, margaritas con mezcal and so much more YUM. I was there for La Guelaguetza in July 2009, the best dancing in the streets. I now live in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, and continue to teach in the MFA in creative writing program at Antioch University, Los Angeles (over sixteen years now)...a very one on one focus for writing students, low residency....one of my students lives in Hong Kong. As you can see from my list of books, I'm a poet, short story writer, novelist...everything born from poetry, my mother tongue. I'm a Yaqui/mestiza who continues to be in love with la vida and I think it's (ultimately) reflected in my writing, although I reserve the right to also 'bitch and moan' for further evolution.
