(I forgot how short it was; it turns out half of my text was the full Project Gutenberg license, which took me by surprise). I liked it, probably because Bierce didn't try to stretch it out (cough-[b:Oblomov|254308|Oblomov|Ivan Goncharov|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1446568199s/254308.jpg|1192093]-...

This book is absolutely one of my favorites. It's touching and heartbreaking! It's ending is unexpected!“he had power only to feel, and feeling was torment” -- This is one of my favorite lines!I truly loved it. And I highly recommend it.

A classic short-story by [a:Ambrose Bierce|14403|Ambrose Bierce|http://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1183231430p2/14403.jpg]. A southern farmer is to be hanged from a railroad bridge by Union troops during the War of Northern Aggression...then something happens.4 STARS

I read this in school. It totally creeped me out, and I still think about it all the time. A lot of books and movies have borrowed the main plot in this short story.
