Since I read Edward Gorey's biography, I thought it would be a good idea to immerse myself in his books which led me to Amphigorey, Amphigorey Too, and Amphigorey Again. These are collections of his illustrated works and I have to be honest that I don't think I'm intellectual enough to get the 'deep...

This is basically an anthology of short, illustrated stories. As with any anthology, some stories are better than others. I found I tended to enjoy Gorey's longer stories more than his short poems. My favorites in this book were “The Unstrung Harp,” “The Hapless Child,” “The Curious Sofa,” “The Gash...

I was introduced to Edward Gorey by his illustrations for Mystery on Masterpiece Theater. I found the stories included to be a lovely, dark sort of humorous, with his sentences and choice of words playful and captivating, and the illustrations beautiful. Unfortunately, I can only give this anthology edition four stars because the quality of printing is distracting at times. I've compar...

Not great literature, but there's more than one way to earn five stars. This guy's artwork is just delightful, and his twisted imagination and black humor are superb. This is a collection of fifteen of his short books in one volume. If the people at my library knew what was in this book, they mig...

Reading Gorey with a Small Child (a short play)(based on actual events)(one might say, ripped from the headlines)Child: Are those bugs? Woman: Yep. Child: What are they doing, Mum?Woman: Uh. Do you want to go watch tv?Child: Can I watch something sure to offend your sensibilities at any other time?W...

Books Read in the Past:The publication of this and subsequent Gorey omnibuses was an experience of sheer hedonistic immersion. Do space them out, though--like truffles, you'll be tempted to cram them all down at once, but Gorey is tastiest in measured servings.
