I'm torn. I really liked parts of this book. But parts of it didn't sit right with me. The handling of the one trans character swung the spectrum from, "yes, this is how you talk to him," to "no, no, no, no, no don't call him not-quite-a-boy." Don't refer to him as confusing, don't say you like ...

Actual rating: 4.5 starsInitial thoughts: Clean is a very solid book. It explores life at a youth rehab from the perspective of five teenagers committed to it. They each battle with different addictions and have to face up to their problems. The writing varies from first-person prose to script-style...

70 authors contribute stories to this anthology about their experiences with bullying as victims, bullies, or observers. Normally for anthologies I go through each story separately, but I’d feel weird about doing that with this book since these are all personal stories the authors are contributing...

A serious, intense, and heart-wrenching look at illness and addiction. In Amy Reed's latest heart-wrenching contemporary novel, we meet Evie, who dreams of the cheerleading moves she used to do, dates the school's hottest jock, and is loved by her family. Now Evie is Cancer Girl, and her best friends...

This book is utter tragedy. This is the other side of cancer. I truly enjoyed this read, but I had to take breaks every now and again just because it was so hard to keep reading because of how heavy it would get. It shows that life isn't something you can guess what will happen next, the unexpected ...

There is no way I’m going to manage to be rational about this book. There isn’t. Like Izzy, I have (undiagnosed) bipolar disorder or, at the very least, cyclothymia. I’ve probably always had it, but it hasn’t been until the last few years where it’s become truly noticeable and an actual problem. Lik...

Note: I received this as an ARC from S&S Galley Grab.Initial reaction: Another book that kept me up to the wee hours of the morning to read through. It was worth every moment. I loved the story, even if there were parts of the story that I didn't care for. That may not make sense in my sleep de...

Crazy deal with important and sensitive material, and as usual I think that Amy Reed writes about it with class, while still fleshing out the characters, making them realistic. This book is gritty at times, definitely keeping it real. One important thing that I didn't know before reading--Crazy ...

This is $9 on Amazon 05/23/2012. Has mixed reviews and is a "new to me" author, so will wait, but the premise of the story sounds really interesting. You can so see how this could easily happen. Get in over your head .. sad really.
