Es el título de la novela más conocida de la novelista canadiense Lucy Maud Montgomery (1874-1942) cuyas tramas se desarrollan principalmente en la isla del Príncipe Eduardo, donde la autora vivió su infancia en casa de sus abuelos maternos. Ana, una niña huérfana adoptada por unos hermanos de mediana edad, posee un carácter despierto y sociable. No obstante, y éste es el tema central de la obra, su imaginación desbordante hace que sus dichos y hechos entren en conflicto con el decoro de la tradicional Avonlea, aldea que constituye el escenario en el que se entrelazan los acontecimientos, cotidianos, cierto, pero pulidos y dorados por la fantasía de la protagonista. Argumento cervantino que se resuelve con el mismo expediente que corona el Quijote; pues, del mismo modo que el loco inmortal muere cuerdo, así Ana la de Tejas Verdes vierte un poco de agua en el vino de su romanticismo y halla un compromiso entre imaginación y respetabilidad.
