Anita is living positively with lupus. For more than a decade, she has written extensively about her lupus experiences and has given numerous lectures and workshops on the subject. In 2006 she received the Humanitarian Award from the Lupus Foundation of Colorado for her extensive volunteer contributions, including serving on its executive board and as the newsletter editor.She has spoken many times to members of Congress to advocate for additional funding for lupus research. She is a graduate of Boston University, Upsala College, and the Iliff School of Theology. An advocate of clear communications, she and her doctor have created a relationship that enabled them to write this book and to continue to contribute to the lives of others.
