Another one of Anita Lobel's fantastic books, Playful Pigs from A to Z. This book is very similar to Away from Home in the way it is written. This story is about 26 playful pigs that decide to go exploring. Each pig has the same letter name as verb, an example would be "Greta Pig guarded a G. Hugo ...

The author, Anita Lobel, does an awesome job of taking the reader to a different world city while also discussing the alphabet. An example would be, "Adam arrived in Amsterdam. Bernard ballooned in Barcelona." I would use this book in kindergarten-1st grade to not only discuss the alphabet, but also...

The story is sort of like a more involved Little Red Hen scenario. Enjoyable though I like Lobel's early reader books better.

I can understand why Huck was reluctant to address this topic with young readers, but without i...

Some would call this a Cinderella variant and in a way it is - there is a stepmother and a stepsister and they are cruel to an innocent and virtuous young girl (in this case named Renee). There is also a fairy godmother and justice doled out. And like Cinderella it was transcribed by Charles Perra...

This is a rare picture book adaptation of the fairytale titled Donkeyskin. It’s rare because Donkeyskin truly is one of the more grim fairy tales (no pun intended – it’s a Perrault tale anyway). The core conflict of Donkeyskin is the threat of incest as a grieving widowed king sets his sights on h...

The illustrations are very pretty - no less than what you'd expect from the Lobels. But I know my daughter found the cumulative text a little tedious and if I'm honest so did I. I would still recommend this for avid gardeners. Unfortunately, we can't grow half the lovely flowers represented here ...
