I had few distractions as a little girl growing up on the edge of a jungle in Trinidad during WW II. I amused myself by publishing a hand-written, illustrated weekly newspaper called The Daily Blah ~ and sold it for a penny a copy to friends and neighbors. This started my career as an entrepreneurial writer/illustrator.I never went to art school. But I continued to write and draw throughout boarding school, high school and college. After marriage, I taught elementary school and was a school administrator in places as diverse as Panama, New York, London, Denver and Los Angeles. I raised three children, three dogs and two cats, still dreaming of being a full time author/illustrator. In the 1980's, I realized that dream, publishing eleven books with traditional publishing houses William Morrow and Simon & Schuster. In 2002, alarmed by the rise of eating disorders and feelings of inadequacy in so many women, I shifted my focus. I started a line of paper greeting card affirmations for women called Goddess Cards.(http://www.goddesscards.com) ("Because every woman is a goddess!") Then, captivated by the new world of online publishing, and tired of physical paper inventory, I converted my paper cards to digital e-Cards (http://www.egoddesscards.com.) "Live your life with passion and joy!") They went well. I still create new e-Cards for eGoddesscards.A meeting with two gifted musicians from L.A., however, lured me back into books for the very young. Cary Beare and Allison McCready had written an inspirational toilet training song for a reluctant potty-trainee nephew. They wanted an illustrator to turn their song into a book. Bowled over by the humor and energy of their song, I agreed to do it. POTTY PARTY was our first collaboration. Since then, we've created four more books: MOON MOON, TEENY GREEN, BLANKIE, and SUNFLOWER. Already, the first four are available on Kindle and iBooks as enhanced musical e-Books, with embedded or linked music videos. SUNFLOWER, the fifth, will be up shortly. A recent Judge's review of TEENY GREEN, my 2015 entry in Writer's Digest's 3rd Annual Writer’s Digest Self-Published eBook Awards, reads, in part: "I think the author’s voice is perfect for this genre. She has definitely found her home in writing and producing children’s books. I hope to read more from this author in the future. Best of luck with this project and thank you for sharing Teeny Green with us!" This was encouraging to a lifelong artist and writer, but fledgling online publisher! What next? More e-Books for children, of course! I love making books for them!
