Professor Anne Devereaux Jordan is a graduate of the University of Michigan (B. A. and M. A.) where, in 1968, she received the Avery and Jule Hopwood Awards in poetry and in short story. In 1973, she founded the Children's Literature Association, serving as its executive secretary/treasurer and director of the annual conference until 1976. In 1992, she was the first recipient of the "Anne Devereaux Jordan Award," established in her honor and now given annually by The Children's Literature Association for outstanding contributions to the field of children's literature. Professor Jordan has reviewed books for the New York Times Book Review, published articles on both children's literature and science fiction, and has had eleven books published. Presently, Anne Jordan is an adjunct faculty member of the Department of English at Eastern Connecticut State University, in Willimantic, Connecticut. She is also a consultant to a number of law firms on matters dealing with children's and adolescent literature and media, and is an expert witness in children's literature.Professor Jordan is a contributor to the recent publication, Keeping the Faith: African American Sermons of Liberation, ed. by James Haskins.New York: Welcome Rain Publishers, 2002.Her works include, Slavery and Resistance.
