This is my first year reading the Best American Short Stories, after having gotten more into short stories over the last few years. I am not a fan of multi-author anthologies, finding them impossible to “get into” when each new story is like starting a new book, and that’s particularly true here, wh...

by Anthony Doerr This is one of those stories you hear a lot of people saying great things about, so curiosity made me read it too. It's set just before and during World War II, and is an interweaving of two stories, though at first it seems to be short, random snippets of different people's exper...

There was a time I was influenced by the opinions of friends or the general public, and would never dare go against the grain. A new day has dawned. What I Enjoyed: That beautiful cover, as well as an attempt to bring h...

I'll start by saying that All the Light We Cannot See is beautifully written. I also loved the characters and the complexity each one brought. This extended beyond the main characters. I enjoyed seeing the effects of WWII from both sides. We had Marie-Laure, a blind Parisian girl, who loses her home...

I really did enjoy this. But I have read and listened to a lot of world war II books and I think this is one of those that will not be as memorable. I enjoyed Code Name Verity and The Nightingale much more. I do see why people really enjoy All the Light We Cannot See, its a great book to discuss and...

3.5 starsThis story shows the sweetest, sadness, randomness and connectedness of people and war. I was moved by it.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. This is in spite me reading it in chronological order rather than the order it is written. It just goes to show, a good story stands on its own.
