ANTHONY JULIAN TAMBURRI is Professor of Italian & Comparative Literature, and Dean of the John D. Calandra Italian American Institute of Queens College/CUNY. His degrees are from Southern Connecticut State (BS, Italian), Middlebury College (MA, Italian), UC Berkeley (PhD, Italian). He has taught at the high‐school level, and at Smith, Middlebury, Auburn, and Purdue, before moving to Florida Atlantic where he served as Chair of Languages and Linguistics, then Associate Dean for Research, Graduate, and Interdisciplinary Studies, and director of the Ph.D. in Comparative Studies.Tamburri is past president of the American Italian Historical Association and the American Association of Teachers of Italian. He is executive producer of the TV program “Italics” and a member of the founding directors of the portal www.i-Italy. org. Among his honors, he was named Distinguished Alumnus in 2000 by Southern Connecticut State University; in 2008, then Bronx President Adolfo Carrion awarded him the Certificate of Appreciation for work as educator and community leader for Italian Americans; and, in 2010 he was conferred the honor of “Cavaliere dell’Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana”.His books in Italian include: “Per una lettura retrospettiva: prose giovanili di Aldo Palazzeschi” (1994); “Una semiotica della ri-lettura” Guido Gozzano, Aldo Palazzeschi, Italo Calvino” (2003); “Narrare altrove: ovvero diverse segnalature letterarie” (2007), “Una semiotica di etnicità: nuove segnalature per la scrittura italiano/Americana” (2010).
