Reading list: Newgate Novels and Sensation Novels

Created by: Batgrl: Bookish Hooha

Newgate Novels: also Old Bailey novels, published 1820s-1840s, biographies of famous criminals (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newgate_novel)

Sensation Novels: novels published 1860s-1870s, melodrama also usually about criminal biographies mixed in with gothic and romantic fiction (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sensation_novel)

IMPORTANT: I'd suggest checking Gutenberg or Internet Archive for these rather than purchasing - they all should be public domain works.

I'm including Thackary's Catherine even though it's supposed to be a satire of Newgate Novels. And also some books on the genres that just sounded interesting and that I have yet to actually read. (I really want to read The Maniac in the Cellar by Winifred Hughes because that title is great.)

Books I can't seem to find online to add on the list:

Richmond by Thomas Gaspey (1827)
Newgate: A Romance by T.P. Prest (1847)
