Reading list: Halloween Book Bingo - Mystery Square
The ultimate never-ending list. I will only add the first of any series. Additionally, I'll add those books that others have chosen for the Mystery category of Halloween Bingo.
My personal tastes are decidedly traditional/cozy, so please leave your book recommendations below in the comments and I'll add them asap.
For 2017 Bingo, any of these books would work for Murder Most Foul, while some may work for the other mystery squares; if I know a specific title will fit other squares, I've noted it in the notes section for that book.

Reading this list (3)
In terms of more recent mystery writing, you can hardly get any more Halloween'ish than with Ian Rankin's "The Falls" (ISBN 13: 9780312982409; 0312982402), whose plot uses a (real) set of ritualistic mini-coffins discovered in Edinburgh in the ealy 19th century, and has overtones of body snatching à la Burke and Hare.
Carol Goodman's "The Lake of Dead Languages" (ISBN 10: 0099435594; ISBN 13: 978 0099435594) involves a legend of three sisters who drowned themselves and turned into rock(s).
Dick Francis - Knockdown
S.J. Parris - Heresy
Jason Goodwin - The Janissary Tree
Janwillem van de Wetering - Outsider in Amsterdam
Henning Mankell - The Pyramid
Michael Connelly - The Late Show
Dennis Lehane - The Given Day and Live by Night
Tana French - Broken Harbour, The Secret Place, and The Trespasser
Andrew Forrester - The Female Detective
The Detection Club - Six Against the Yard and Ask a Policeman
E.C. Bentley - Trent's Own Case (Philip Trent #2 -- the first Philip Trent book, which for reasons that become clear in the book, is called "Trent's Last Case", would of course also qualify for this square)
Martin Edwards / British Library - Silent Nights: Christmas Mysteries (Golden Age short story anthology)
Michael Jecks - The Boy-Bishop's Glovemaker, The Chapel of Bones, The Butcher of St. Peter's, and The Malice of Unnatural Death (all part of Jecks's "Knights Templar" series, which begins with "The Last Templar")
Ellis Peters - The Felse Investigations series
Erle Stanley Gardner - Perry Mason (various omnibus volumes)
Rex Stout - Some Buried Caesar and Too Many Cooks
... and an audio short story collection / anthology entitled Murder Most Foul!
Well, I guess this is the list that will tell us whether there's a 100 book limitation on reading lists ... :)
And go figure -- so many mysteries / mystery collections entitled "Murder Most Foul." Who'd have thunk! :D (The one I meant is this one: http://booklikes.com/murder-most-foul-the-collection-derek-jacobi-brian-cox-edward-hardwicke-jac/book,13866507 ... that's what I get from omitting the ISBN, of course. By all means leave the ones already there, though.)
British Library / Martin Edwards: "Resorting to Murder" (ISBN 9780712357487) -- the second of the six BL / Edwards short story anthologies not to necessarily to fit any of the more specific bingo squares.
:D
