Reading list: Halloween Book Bingo - Classic Horror Square
These are the popularly agreed upon "Classics"; horror stories that have stood the test of time. How much time is probably open to massive debate, so for the purposes of this list and my sanity, I'm going to include only those "classics" that were written before 1970.
This is NOT a rule of the bingo game, merely a guideline for myself when creating the list so as not to end up with a largely duplicative list to Genre: Horror.
If you have titles you think fit this category that you want to recommend, please add them in the comments section and I'll get them on the list asap.

Charles Dickens: "The Signalman" (ISBN 10: 1781255911; ISBN 13: 9781781255919)
The Ghost Stories of Edith Wharton" (ISBN 10: 0684842572; ISBN 13: 9780684842578)
My profound kudos to you, though, for having created all these lists in the first place (especially with setting up lists being so much more cumbersome here than on GR). AND thank you so much again for so quickly adding all my extra suggestions, too. Multiple contributor reading lists have definitely made it to the top of my features wish list in the last couple of days!
Most of my suggestions were taken from my BL shelves, btw (which essentially combine my RL library and, as part of my TBR, my Amazon wishlist). Other than the books by R.L. Stine, by whom I've read next to nothing, and a very quick check on the limits of what is considered "gothic," no research was involved ... I'd never have had the time for that!
John William Polidori - "The Vampyre" -- obviously also for "Vampires", in case it's not on that list already.
The Halloween Tree by Ray Bradbury (9780375803017)
The Shining by Stephen King (9780450040184)
