Surprised myself by getting fairly into this. It was fairy biblical but I liked the world building. I found the main character to be believable in her situation and I liked the various angel lore.
This book had great world building and characters. I loved all the science fiction elements that had me imagining all sorts of crazy ideas. The author did a fantastic job at providing just enough information to really hook you in to wondering how and why the world these characters inhabit came about...
I read one review that claimed the overall plot of this book is very reminiscent of Anne McCaffrey's Pern. That didn't occur to me when reading it, but the reviewer makes a good case. The woman at the center of this story, Rachel, is reminiscent of Lessa--only much bitchier. An angel named Gabriel c...
Angel Gabriel, being next in the line to become Archangel and lead the annual Gloria to assure God everything is in harmony has a problem. He needs to find his chosen bride by God – the Angelica – within six months to assist him with the Gloria or desaster will strike. He isn´t happy about Rachel be...
3 stars for that absolutely lame ending, the lack of fluff (THEY FOUGHT ALL DAY HOW THE DEVIL DID THEY FALL IN LOVE) and because Rachel could be awfully catty.
Rating: 4.5 Stars I'm at a loss for words when it comes to Sharon Shinn's Archangel. Utterly torn in fact. I was so sure this novel would earn a hearty 5 Stars from me and make its way to my 'favorites' shelf, but alas, I couldn't bring myself to fall in love with this as I thought I would. I suppos...
Samaria SeriesIf all romance books were like these, I might consider myself to be a fan of romance novels in general. The 'Samaria' series is primarily romance - but it's balanced with enough other plot elements that it doesn't get too tedious. They're even frequently... romantic!... in a way that do...
I like Sharon Shinn's writing, but this one didn't work for me. Partly because I didn't really like Rachel that much, and it's hard for me to get into a novel where I don't emphasize with the main protagonist. I also wasn't drawn in by the main relationship, since it was dominated by arguing and mis...
I'm not sure if I should categorise Archangel as fantasy or scifi. The sequels appear to be scifi but this one has no technology so I'm not sure where it fits. The world is called Samaria which is separated into regions with an Angel lording of the hold. The current Archangel Raphael is corrupt and h...
That was..... well.. really interesting would be the best term I can come up with. I wish the romance had been even slightly steamy, and I was very disappointed that the bleedin' SYNOPSIS in my copy of the book gave a HUGE spoiler for the SERIES that wasn't even MENTIONED in this book :-/ Very very...
