A fabulous volume of poetry. I don't really know how to review non-epic poetry, so I don't know that I have much to say about it. It is emotionally raw and plumbs the dark places of the human soul. It is a sort of set of dispatches from despair. Very good and raw and memorable.

77. ARIEL, BY SYLVIA PLATHRecommended by Lúcia Ramos.I’m really not a great fan of poetry. Also, as I’ve already said many times, English is not my first language. I’m much better at reading and writing than I am at listening and speaking. Poems depend a lot on rhythm and sound, so no doubt that mak...

Very controlled, masterly writing. Very hermetic, too - the collection requires hard work from the reader.

I can’t imagine McGough being better done than by Mitchell, for example. Here Rampling held the audience...

Ariel is an interesting work of poetry. I find Sylvia Plath's style interesting and she definitely ranks highly among poets yet I found myself caring little for many of the works in Ariel and loving many of the others. My personal favourites are The Arrival of the Bee Box, Daddy, and Fever 103,. The...

I don't know if I can do this collection of poems justice. It is spectacular, and these poems will stay with you for years, if not for the rest of your life. An incredible achievement in prose.
