Atinuke is one of my favorite authors and she doesn’t disappoint with her new picture book offering. I love that the pictures include a narrative of going to visit grandfather that is not explicitly stated within the text. It adds a layer to this otherwise simple book.
A good companion series to Anna Hibiscus and good to read on its own.
This is the last Anna Hibiscus book which makes me very sad. I wish this series would go on forever. I was nervous when the first story was a light one about Double and Trouble. It felt a little out of place with the series, like maybe it was meant for an earlier book or should have been a picture...
I love the story about Anna's hair with it's Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle-esque conclusion.
I love how Atinuke tackles big subjects like racism and poverty in a way that feels very accessible, never didactic, always entertaining. Some stories come with a moral and some stories are just fun.
