I'd say a 3.5, so I'm rounding up. I liked it, just not as much as I expected to, which is probably holding the book to a ridiculous standard, but I couldn't help feeling a little disappointed that I didn't just love it as much as I wanted.
I am so mixed on my rating for this book but I think I will settle on 3.5 stars. The narration is fabulous and deserves a full five stars. Emily Gray performs the various voices convincingly – men and women from various countries and with multiple styles of accents. The jokes, inner monologue obs...
This is going to be a series review for Soulless, Changeless, Blameless, Heartless, and Timeless. Spoilers ahead. Probably. Instead of waiting years to see the Parasol Protectorate series to its conclusion, I've had the pleasure of reading all five books almost back to back within the space of few s...
The Parasol Protectorate is a new to me Steampunk/Paranormal series that introduces one of the funniest characters I’ve read in a long time: The Soulless Alexis Tarabotti. Alexis is thus designated because she is essentially without a soul and her ability to negate the powers of the supernatural ...
This was a really fun read! Nice and easy and light.I really enjoyed Alexis' character - a strong, quirky female protagonist! I loved her down-to-earthness, I loved her tongue-in-cheekness! I LOVED her relationship with Lord Maccon. I loved her sexuality, I just loved her!
Miss Tarabotti is a proper Victorian lady. The daughter of upper class, proper British society with all the refinement, expectations and proprieties that entails. She’s also a spinster at the grand old age of 25, cursed by her Italian father to be too dark, have too bold a nose and far too bold a ton...
This was one of the surprises of the year. Even though I have had the Parasol Protectorate series on my TBR for a while, I never really looked into them and what they were about. All I knew was that they were classified as steampunk, a genre I love.Miss Alexia Tarabotti is a special woman, in severa...
Recommended by my sister Rose, this bright amalgam of a book is more than the sum of its parts, which include being a Victorian romance, an alternate history, a paranormal scifi fantasy, a murder mystery and a PG Wodehouse-like comedy. My only complaint is that for me the scenes with sexual activity...
3.5 StarsAn intelligent and cheeky parasol wielding spinster (26 years old) bucks the conventions of Victorian era in this creative steampunk tale about London's integration of supernaturals. The tension between lead characters develops through opposition of gender and natural powers. Like in spec...
