This one was a surprise for me. I'd seen a lot of mediocre reviews, that strangely vehemently compared it to Joss Whedon's Firefly, but then complained that it was, inf act, not enough like Firefly. I saw a definite influence, but I saw the influence of many more modern sci-fi franchises as well, su...

Avalon was actually quite entertaining. While I had trouble getting into it in the first half, the action started picking up towards the end and the ending was quite explosive. I'm typically not a fan of science fiction and like to reserve my sci-fi enjoyments to visual media (television and movies)...

Unlike the TV show Firefly the characters in this book did not have much in the way of "on page" chemistry. While the story itself was fairly action packed the characters were for the most part flat and one dimensional and none of them stood out, not even the main character Jeth.

This was a great book, very character driven with good world building. Follows the story of young Jeth Seagrave and his crew of thieves. After being orphaned at the age of 11(now 17 years old) he has had to turn to a life of crime, and is struggling to make enough money to buy his parents old ship b...

Avalon starts off with a bang - Jeth and his crew of teenage thieves must steal a ship and get it back safely to their crime lord boss, Hammer. Then the action slows, and we learn about the crew, Jeth and Lizzie's past, their parents' deaths, and all about their ship - also their home - the ""Avalon...

DNF. I just can't do this author's writing. It's way too simple and telling. Story was intriguing enough, so if you can get past the writing, it could be a good book. Just not one for me.

This is Firefly fanfiction under different names. Boy, they weren't kidding when the summary of the book said it is "a great match for fans of Joss Whedon's cult hit show Firefly." There are a tremendous amount of similarities, for one, the plot: a ragtag crew of mercenaries set out into space on a...

Avalon is compared to Firefly, but I've never seen it. I'll definitely be watching soon though.Avalon starts off a bit slow. I felt like things could have been sped up a bit, but I can understand the slower pace. This futuristic world definitely needs some groundwork laid out for us so that we kn...
