Recently named by mindbodygreen.com as one of the 100 Women to Watch in Wellness, Dr. Aviva Romm has bridged her interests in traditional medicine with her knowledge of science for over 3 decades. A midwife and herbalist for 25 years, and now a Yale trained MD, Board Certified in Family Medicine with Obstetrics, she is one of the nation's leaders in the field of botanical medicine and the author of 7 books on natural medicine for women and children. Her focus is on women's and children's health, with an emphasis on the impact of stress on health, energy, food cravings, weight, chronic disease, and hormone imbalance.An internationally respected authority on botanical and functional medicine for women and children, with 30 years of clinical experience, she is the author of 7 books on natural medicine, including Botanical Medicine for Women's Health, winner of the American Botanical Council's James Duke Award. A graduate of Yale School of Medicine where she received the Internal Medicine Award for "outstanding academic achievement and community service," Aviva completed her internship in Internal Medicine at Yale where she was instrumental in creating the school's first integrative medicine curriculum. She completed her residency in Family Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine.Dr. Romm is an Adjunct Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine. She is also a member of the Advisory Board of the Yale Integrative Medicine Program, is Medical Director of the American Herbal Pharmacopoeia and Therapeutic Compendium, and sits on the expert panel of the American Herbal Products Association's Botanical Safety Handbook. She also serves on the numerous boards and advisory committees. Dr, Romm is a leader in the revolution to transform the current medical system into one that respects the intrinsic healing capacities of the body and nature - while helping women take their health into their own hands. Her goal is to foster greater access to a health-based, trans-disciplinary health care model. Her primary commitment is to practicing and teaching clinical medicine, promoting an ecological basis for health, and continuing to care for mothers, children, and families.
